I'm starting to incubate eggs and was wondering how everyone prices their chickens when they sell them? What's the ging rate and how did you come up with it? Does it change based on breed or age?

you can sell them?

never thought of that possibility...I am more into the WOW! more for me!!

I got to auctions and get what I can...

Average chickens not show quality chicks go for $3.00 . Older pullets say 13 weeks old sell for 8 maybe 9 dollars. The older the more you will pay because of the time & expense of raising them. I would have to say some areas are more some maybe less. These prices are based on the area where I live.

Try checking out the farm and garden section of Craigslist in your area. I see folks selling on there for various prices, would give a good idea of what birds are going for in your area, based on breed, sex, etc.

This is a local market situation. It will vary greatly. Obviously, if you price your chicks too high, your Craigslist advertisement won't draw much attention. I can only tell you that find $8 for a started pullet about the best I can get here. Chickens are like beef steers or other expensive livestock.

Here in Rock Hill we sell our chicks for 2.00ea. The reason is because our breeder in Fort mill sells his for the same price and I dont want to highball our breeder.Pullets are 10.00 and laying hens are 15.00.Cockerals are 8.00 and roos are 12.00.

Here in eastern KY, EVERYONE has chickens and games are about the only ones that are worth anything to anyone. Laying hens sell for about 8-10 bucks, where pullets sell for the same(go figure

) However, I did just sell 10 mutt 4 week olds for 5 bucks, which I believe is fair. When I get into a pure flock of BLR, I will not waste my time trying to sell chicks around here, because they dont know the difference nor do they care around here

Thanks everyone! I checked craigslist and chicks go for about $6-10, Pullets $12-20, hens $20-35, Roos $5-20. I'm in the north bay. My first batch of chicks is due this Wednesday!!!!!

I would say a chick for 5 bucks is highway robbery. But that's just me. I plan on selling chicks one day. I was thinking maybe $2.00 maybe even less, definitely less if they buy more. I live in a rural area. My local feed stores only get chicks around this time of year and sells their for 2-2.50. I would rather be under-priced and sell than overpriced and not. But again just depends where you live. If you're customer base will be city then more power to you. But even when I told my dad 2 bucks he thought I should sell them for $0.25.

(He's very old, they used to give chicks away back in his day). Hope this helps. Good luck.
