I've been having a hard time selling lavender split chicks.. they are solid black and I've noticed they move slow. Anyone else run into this? I'm thinking I might move away from breeding lavenders..

I sell all the chicks at $4 a piece. The lavenders get sold fast. Then I'm left with black ones that eventually sell later. It's my 3rd hatch and I've only sold 5 of 14 in a little over a weeks time.

Ignorant here. What does lavender split mean? Will they throw lavenders at all?
Lavender is recessive so it takes two copies to show.
When a lavender is bred to a black the chicks are black but carry one hidden lavender gene.
Theyre called lavender splits or split to lavender.
When those chicks are bred together you average 25% lavender 25% black and 50% black split to lavender.
If you breed a split to a lavender you average 50% lavender and 50% black split to lavender.

So you sell lavenders for the same price as splits?
If so thats the problem. Splits usually sell for 1/2 of what the lavenders go for.
Where are you located?
Yes I sell them all for $4 a piece. They are amerucanas and I figured that was a good price. Everyone doesn't seem to want straight run. That is my other problem I suppose.. straight run black chicks. I prefer black chickens. But my light brahmas and my Easter eggers go so much faster.

Its nice that u prefer Black. But that is quite uncommon. Most people, unless they are breeding or showing, prefer color of some sort. Many are just for egg laying pets/ hobby.

Like our chicks. I have 1 all black Easter Egger (that my daughter picked out) The rest are all a variety of different colorful chickens.
I think black chickens are like black cats. Always the hardest to sell/home. Just my opinion.
