Selling quail eggs for consuming or hatching ?

I wouldn't judge the size of an egg to a standard because you can get a big egg but an itty bitty bird can pop out of there and not be a jumbo that we want.

Um, no. The reason I asked, there is a very upscale grocery store about 2 miles from my house, and it caters to a large Japanese clientele because of the (remains/remnants/shadow of its former self) auto industry. They sell "sushi eggs" there for $11.99 a carton, which contains 1 1/2 dozen IIRC, so that's 8 a dozen. I don't know if they sell many, and they don't have them all the time.

2.50 A DZ FOR EATING EGGS THAT'S GOING TO REQUIRE THE ENTIRE DOZEN TO MAKE A SINGLE CAKE? I'LL STICK TO CHICKEN EGGS FOR EATING, HATCH MY QUAIL AND EAT THEM WHEN THEY MATURE

was referring to a standard for quail eggs sold for eating not hatching. like chicken eggs, small, large, jumbo sized eggs. We know all quail eggs for either hatching and/or eating are not created equal. I would not want to buy a carton of 9 gram eggs to eat when I could maybe buy a carton of 15 gr eggs for the same price? 90 grams vs. 150 grams for same price?

or is it just the novelty? I mean, I like eating them, but would not pay over $6 a dozen to eat em. might as well swallow 2 quarters at a time?

I realize this post is about coturnix eggs but all the chicken swaps I have been to this year Bob white Hatching eggs bring $1/egg or $10/dz coturnix eggs at grocery stores I start at $4 /dz if they will buy at least 5 dz I will go down to $3/dz I will sell 2 dz to one store and 3 to another and then each store will call me 2 times a week sometimes 3 times but I just found a really large store that claims he can take as many as I can produce I am getting ready to order some eggs to get some new blood in and put in a few more hens. a dressed coturnix here I can get $4/bird if they will take 8 or so I kina knock a little off. I have been hatching chukars the last coupla weeks still building more pens and I just bought a coupla pairs of blue scales and gambles and set 30 gamble eggs about a week ago and set 30 more day before yesterday

Not to steal the thread here Prophet, but could you tell me how big of pens your use'in\\build'in for the chucks? I read the UC Davis paper says they used 5'x30" grow out pens for 25 birds up to 16 weeks. This sounds pretty tight to me. I figured at least 8'x 30" and the one I'm buildin now is 10'x30" I got one in the brooder now dragg'in his buddy around by the leg and is less than 24 hrs old!! Bill

I think I'm confused on the prices.

Is this $10 for just raw eating eggs?

Is it for hatching eggs?

$4 per bird dressed? So you have to process as well?
