Once our girls started laying steadily OldGal and I discovered that we really couldn't eat 8-12 eggs a day. Who would have thought? At first OldGal sold them where she worked with great success, but than she changed jobs (better job and higher wages) and we came to the conclusion that selling eggs while working at a grocery store probably wasn't a wise career move.

Next we tried an ad on Craig's list. Several responses but no buyers. Next I put up an 8½" x 11" sign on our mail box that read, "Farm Fresh Brown Eggs $2.50 per Dozen Honk Horn for Service". Nothing. Nadda! Ad in the Green Sheet, no good.

Well, as a final effort I tried a larger sign on the road:

It measures about 2' x 3', and it really works. Every 2-3 days someone stops, even though it's not a heavily traveled road and buys 2-3 dozen at $2.75/dozen.

When it comes to poultry related anything marketing is where it's at. Producing the birds or their eggs is the easy part.

Selling them is where the real job of work lies. Glad your sign worked for you.

My wife's a nurse and takes the eggs to work and the other nurses fight over them.

I had to give away eggs when I started, but within days I had people knocking on my door and phoning me, placing orders for eggs. The people I gave eggs to told their friends and neighbours and they then wanted some... it didn't take long before I had more customers than eggs!

I sell to neighbors. I sometimes give away free eggs to ramdom people Now that I have a roo I think most people will think there is something wrong with those *fertilised* eggs,or they will think it is gross to eat them.Lol,not like eating an egg isn't gross.Just a little extra protein!

I live on a busy road.Could do the sign thing, but I dislike attracting anyone to the home. I know some places also make a big stink about selling food...you know illegal...health risk...danger to the pubic.

I only have 7 hens,so selling to neighbors is ok.Sometimes we trade which is fine by me.Eggs for veggies or fruits!
