Hello,
I was wondering about mailing chicks and chickens:
>Do you need a special permit or license?
>Has any small-flock owner done it?
>Can you send just one adult bird and have it survive?
Thank you!

In case you don't get any immediate responses, here's an old thread discussing the topic. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/421654/shipping-adult-birds/10

A lot depends on the postal employees, how careful they are handling live shipments whether they make it to their destination alive. I do know BYC has a lot of breeders who ship their chickens all the time.

Little things such as not checking to be sure there are no dry ice shipments going at the same time as your live birds can mean death to your chickens, and not many people are aware of that danger. Time of year is another big consideration to avoid freezing or overheating during layovers during the shipping process.

That said, chickens are shipped all the time and most arrive alive and well. I do not know the answer to the question about licensing.

Knowing your location can help folks give better answers/suggestions.

You'd have to check with your local and the destinations local agriculture regulations to see about permits, vaccinations, health certificates, etc..
