Sensitive Public Situation..... How would you handle????

It's not just the media covering it and 75 horses here in CA have died from it already. They are dropping like flies. A week ago it was 5, today, as of this morning 75. That is too big of a chance to take. I think what the OP is doing is what is expected from the President of a Club. No way would I want ANY horses coming from CA to be sold at her event. Not a chance. The person should be understanding, but you never know how someone will react.

Karen, all you can do is call her or email her and explain the situation and the fact that you just can't take that chance. None of us would willingly allow chickens that could be infected with something to a show....

You are right Debi, I am sure there will be a big stink about it, some people like her, some don't. I have nothing against her personally, but since she has not supported our shows this year , I feel like my first and formost responsibility is to the competitors that have been there and supported this club.

That is your responsibility, because if this thing gets spread because of a sale at your club event.... Well, it won't be pretty. It's here. Let's keep it here, by whatever means necessary.

We have a fairly large equine community here and they are just dropping. I can't even remember the name of this illness, but it is spreading rampantly.

Some kind of immune disorder. They call it equine herpes. First it's west nile disease. Now herpes? naturally it's not at all related to the human version.

It also seems there is no way to stop it. How many horses has your state lost? I am almost afraid to check in the morning.

Karen I believe that is not up to date, as it shows the 5 confirmed from last week, but not the 75 I read about yesterday. I think it was yesterday.... For CA that is.

The best thing you can do is not allow her to bring any horses. She of course would be welcome, but not the horses.

I don't know how many we have lost. We have never been into the show circuit. It gets mentioned on the radio once in a while. My DW follows it a lot closer than I do.
