So try to keep him pretty! If they attack him badly, he may not be so welcome in his new home unless they're surgeons. Here's our prize roo after the stupid fight with his son, took us totally by surprise:

Poor Mr Peeps was scalped. He used to look like this:

He's OK today, 2 years later. Actually he likes visibility. The fluff never grew back over his eyes. But believe me, it can get ugly, and expensive to repair if you don't protect your pretty bird!

as the person earlier mentioned, you can make a simple area inside the run. Check out my BYC page and I've made a little broody home for me broody hen and her baby chic. I've made it from plywood left over and some 2x4's and chicken wire. I forgot to re-read your first post, I'm sorry

I thought you wanted to breed them. It's not that big nor is it too small but enough for 1 rooster I suppose. You can re use that for broody hens or if you get baby chics later or however fits your needs. Hope everything turns out well.

Below is a pic of the "condos" that I recently built. They appear small in the picture but are actually 2 1/2 feet deep by 6 feet wide. We use them for our roosters when we need to separate them.

Each bird in a condo gets outside for some play time every day.

Great pic! Thanks! I am going to be building something very similar! I love it because you don't loose the floorspace that silkies use, but also don't waste the vertical space!
