September 2016 Hatch-A-Long

Lockdown for me tomorrow night! Eeeeek! This never gets old. All my air cells look decent for shipped eggs and for the first time, I don't have any saddle cells. No idea how I managed that stroke of luck. I can't wait to see everyone's fluffy pictures!
yay! i'm still another 4 days away....getting so excited to see everyone's pictures of cute little fluffs!

I have my first pip (middle egg in the photo). YAY

Hey all! I've not posted since I set eggs. The PO was not gentle with these eggs, although they were packed well. Lots of wobbly air cells and saddle shaped air cells. I am incubating upright, tilting the incubator 3-5 times a day by propping one side up an inch or so and then switching. Incubating in egg cartons, air cell up, with the bottoms cut out of the cartons for air.

Anyone have any pointers on this? Have you done this before?

Set Eggs on Friday, Sept. 2nd. Could only see some very light veining in two eggs on day 3. I am waiting til day 7 to get a better idea of what is going on.

I usually let them sit for 1-2 days then incubate without turning 2-3 days then proceed like normal.

I should have mentioned what I did until now. They sat for 1 day. Went into the incubator upright for 3 days. Then I began tilting the incubator 3-5 times a day, keeping them upright in the egg cartons.

If I went along as normal, they would be in the turner on their side, rolling back and forth when the turner turns. Is that what you would do? Place them on their sides although the air cells are wobbly?

I candled yesterday, day 7. I had 3 clear, I cracked open, probably infertile. One with a blood ring. One totally developed like to day 5 or 6 but I could tell it quit because the dark blob rolls allover. I wonder why they quit. So that leaves 24 but most are the olive eggs which I'm starting to think they have some Marans blood because they are so insanely dark. I can barely see the air cell and the slight shadow on one side. I know from the leghorns that they are filling about half the shell with veining, chick, etc. I just watch the air cell, if it's not growing or if I can't see it anymore they're probably dead. Day 8 seems like such an endless wait.
