September 2016 Hatch-A-Long

Oh wow awesome! Any updates?
First one to pip hasn't made much more progress but I can see it nudging the membrane/shell that is cracked. The membrane is cracked along the edge.

2nd (on the right) and 3rd to pip (left)

4th to pip (right front egg in photo). Was a bit hard to get a photo of the back eggs

So definitely things are progressing but slowly (which seems to be what I have read on BYC many times). Just hoping there are no problems

Although how does anyone get a proper nights sleep when this is happening? I think my mind is focused on it so much that I easily wake up every couple of hours. Admittedly a cat smashing things off the bedside table is hard to sleep through.

edited to add: I forgot to say I could hear at least one but I think a couple chirping in their shells :)

Hi, I'm back reporting that so far it appears that one very hearty and loud chick has hatched (I'm 99% certain from MIma's silike egg). It is grey in color so it's so difficult to see under the splash mom hen! BTW this was one of the "heavy" eggs. The size of the open shell indicates it definitely is not the light white egg!
I'm watching, listening and waiting for more newcomers.
I'll post as I note progress.

That's awesome that you have at least one chick

I think the 'heavy' eggs were actually just more solid (as in full of chick) but that if you had actually weighed them they would have been lighter. I know what you mean by saying it felt heavier. Its also important to note that if a egg started off with a higher mass than a different egg there weight loss would be different.

Either way im interested to see if it is the 'heavier' feeling eggs that hatch.
Keep us posted

I should have mentioned what I did until now. They sat for 1 day. Went into the incubator upright for 3 days. Then I began tilting the incubator 3-5 times a day, keeping them upright in the egg cartons.

If I went along as normal, they would be in the turner on their side, rolling back and forth when the turner turns. Is that what you would do? Place them on their sides although the air cells are wobbly?

My turner is upright with 45° tilts so your method sounds spot on.

So put in Friday night these are CCL eggs. I'll take better pictures next time I candle on day 11 but I was trying to show you all a bit what I'm talking about. (Leaving all that I think might not be living anymore In till then too) I put these in Friday so that'd make today around day 5ish, large majority have veins and such but lots have a very very light reddish line going all the way around them. Should I believe that most of these are blood rings and could've happened when the temp spike that I had no clue about while I was when I checked the max temp (101.3 in a forced air) could've been a suspended time? Or that the veins are just still developing? I really wish I wouldn't have gone to that wedding now as I feel I probably screwed up my whole hatch! :/
I'm honestly hoping for the best but it seems that everything about this hatch is not going in my favor. guess I won't know for sure until day 11. Not gonna candle on day 8 I think, not sure yet.

Holy moly! Took my eggs out of the incubator to get ready for lockdown and heard peeping! Two had pipped already!!! Scared the life out of me. I quickly wrapped them in a warm, moist towel while I took out turning tray and got everyone else settled in. One is right where it needs to pip but the other has pipped on the narrow side of the egg. That's a first for me. It's peeping and moving though.

My last hatch in the 1588 came early as well- day 19 but 18?!?! Wowzas! I've got some rockers too!

Sounds like you will have chicks soon :) I wonder if the temp was up a bit / inaccurate as I have read that can result in early hatches.

Hoping your hatch goes well
