September 2021 Hatch - A - Long

I've eggs hatching almost weekly; under broody hens/birds and in the incubator. This month's eggs are Phoenix and Serama eggs. A few eggs have hatched in the last couple days; serama and phoenix. I'm hoping to have call ducklings hatch next month and maybe muscovys. My pigeons are fairly constant in producing new squabs. I've got my fingers crossed for out-of-season poults. My Midget White turkeys have nested at weird times before and our weather, right now, has a spring feel to it. But... it is spring here-all year long with a continuous supply of new babies. Happy hatching everyone. This is the first September chicks.

And babies to be.

Two eggs in the nest today. The nest is in a roof top garden; should be safe there. The mother-to-be is a black laced blue Call duck-her first nest. I sure hope they hatch!

Well, my hatch is complete. 9/11 eggs hatched! Of course I had hoped for all eleven.

One ameraucana egg never even pipped, and one marans egg pipped but never zipped. I did open the air cell on the marans just to make sure it wasn't alive and stuck in there. I don't have the heart to really do eggtopsies beyond that.

Unfortunately I was so busy with work and the baby I did not actually get a picture of the group, please forgive me y'all

I did learn one lesson, to arrange meet up with the customer two days after the expected hatch, not one. I had one marans chick hatching slow and the customer could not wait another day to meet up! Not a big deal, I have already found a home for it locally, just not ideal. Here's the little one, a bit gunky from the incubator

Depending on the whole situation, it is possible to have given the egg to the customer anyway. A woman can put it in her shirt, but it’s also okay wrapped in a towel. Upon getting to the house, the heat lamp would work.

I give up on incubating in the house. I had the incubator running nonstop (less than a week in between) since March. Suddenly I got an awful hatch. Okay, the eggs were shipped, and things happen. Since then, I have gotten chicks to lockdown, but they die like that day. I even switched incubators.
Yada yada, broody has a ton of eggs, and I’m not getting involved. Due date 9/22.
