September 2024 hatch-a-long 🥳🥳

Pics
So after two years of being unable to set up the incubator, FINALLY, on this day, the 25th of August 2024, the incubator is at optimal temperature and humidity and I am able to set 12 Buff Cochin, 3 belgium D'uccle Millie fleur and 3 cochin x"bantam" orpinton eggs, in a Janoel 48 incubator that features forced air, styrofoam cover to even warmth and an upright egg turner. Hatch date is approx the 15th of September 2024
Key notes:
My hatching experience is 90% ducks
This is a fertility test hatch
This is my first crack at dry hatching

Yay to false spring, although I wasn't quite ready for temps in the 30's (Celsius)
I have set 7 Silkies due on the 10th. On the 14th I also have due 10 Welsummer, 7 Olive eggers, 3 golden cuckoo Marans, 1 wheaten Marans and 1 Birchen Marans

IT's so good to see familar names pop up in the hatchalong! I have a second incubator coming so fingers crossed I get another hatch set

I completely forgot I also ordered eggs and just got the notification they have been posted 🤣
So I'm going to have to warm up another incubator for a dozen olive eggs and a dozen mixed "rainbow" 🌈
My husband is probably going to want to divorce me when he hears/sees all the chicks

Day 7 update, who would think cochin eggs would be so dark to candle?? The Duccle eggs are developing lovely, 3 obvious cochin eggs, 4 that the light shines through far too easy (from same hen) and the others could go either way. The orpington/cochin eggs appear to be clear (thats what I was hopping for as the cochin hens had butt trimmings and she did not, wanted to know how accurate that was)

I can't sleep so candled my eggs. Silkies are all doing well in the little incubator.
I took out 2 Welsummer and the Wheaten Marans which were clear plus one OE had quit in bigger incubator #1.
Incubator #2 is early days but it looks like all developing except one Marans cross and maybe 2 olives, but they are hard to see in so I'll check at day 7 and 10. not bad for posted eggs

Are all the maran eggs you have the super dark chocolate colour?

We don't have the genetics in Aus for those real dark eggs. Mine are a 4-5 on the French Marans chart with the odd 6. still a nice compliment to the egg basket especially when you get the real spotty ones or heavy bloom
