September Hatch-A-Long!

We're veyr excited today. My 4 year old daughter has 5 eggs from her hen in the incunator and 2 have pips so far! She was so sad last month when her hen's egg died a few days before hatching. The hen is a spangled old english game bantam named cookie stripe lol. The father of her chicks is a mystery. It is most likely our black silkie roo named sookie or our porcelain d'uccle roo named little loon. My daughter is wanting loon to be the father so fingers crossed!

New at this, however, I'm I correct to think this egg is bad. Best pic i could get. no movement day 13. Circle goes around, their seems to be veins though. Blood ring?

Egg should be transparent compared to the others that are showing movement. Day 13 should be VERY apparent. I always just compare the bad one to my others that are apparently developing.

I have my very 1st pip ever!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!
It is so exciting especially the first time. I keep thinking it will get old but it never does. Good luck.

i have a feeling this is going to be the longest week...
question i have eggs going into day 18 today tomorrow and sunday...do i put them all in the hatcher now so i dont have to open the hatcher or sneek them in when its time??

my estamated hatch days this month are
the 9th,10th,11th,16th and the 23rd.
I picked the time in the middle. I put some in a day late and some a day early. Also I try to do it while none of the eggs have a pip. Right after some hatch the humidity is higher too. Now I try to be sure I have a few days in between.
I have some slow pokes from yesterday finishing up. Silkies going into lockdown today. The rest of the month 8th, 13th, 15th, 20th, 27th.

Quick question..... I cant believe these chicks are even alive but I can hear someone chirping from inside the egg no holes yet dont know who of the 8 is doing it day 21 is tomorrow. How long do I wait? I know there is nothing I can do but hpw long does this usually take its almost 7 pm est and I heard the first noises at around 2:30-3:00. Thanks in advance for the advice! Fingers crossed!!!
It can take awhile. I've had some rest over 24 hours after the internal pip. Then pip the shell and wait another 24 hours. I've also had a chick pip and hatch in less than an hour. My first chick pipped in the morning, rested 30 hours with no movement. I watched and watched. I ran out to feed my chickens. I was gone less than 10 minutes. The chick was walking around by the time I got back. The second chick was less than 1 minute. It's so hard to wait and do nothing.

Hello cyber peeps. What do I do with so many chicks? I had such poor hatch rates in the beginging, I started buying more eggs to be sure I got 1 or 2 to hatch. Now I have chicks everywhere. Especially Bantam Chochins. I have also hatched some for friends but they aren't quite old enough to go outside yet. 58 chicks in 3 brooders in my laundry room. I posted my first chick ad on Craigs List. Now whow do I decide who I can let go? I love them all. This is too hard. I am still waiting on 2 more Orpingtons. Come on guys, there is a line for the hatcher and your turn is up.

I'm so very sorry, and its a tough call to make. Sometimes we help and it goes horribly wrong and sometimes we wait and it goes horribly wrong. I'm sorry for your loss and I'm very heavy hearted for your situation. It happens though, try not to beat yourself up over it and be blessed for the ones that made it.

How long does it usually take for these little things to dry? I'm sooo tired and ready for bed. Need to figure out what time to set an alarm to get up and check.

mine were not dry today - after 15 or so hours.. i emptied the incubator completely of water. got the brooder ready and put them in there. the humidity is now around 50 in the brooder and there all dry. a few have crusty heads or backs.. but are completely dry otherwise now.

i had one splayed leg guy. i taped his legs about 5 hrs ago, he seem to be up and walking around now fine.

2 of my chicks- one of the splayed ones- and another were very tired and laying around all day. there up now :) its been 24-30 hours since birth for all.

out of 11 eggs, i got 9 chicks, 8 hatched, 1 died. he had an unabsorbed yolk and he poked it open with his foot.

my friend wants to bring me more eggs but im like ugh. i dunno if i can handle the stress of doing this all again !

i have one chick that has black spots on his back. i think i wanna keep him. i love the first born ( hes a week old now - from another hatch)
i had 3 white eggs, three brown eggs and 1 darker egg. i wish i had been on the ball to label these guys somehow.

also some of the birds are starting to get their wing feathers already :) i love how fast they grow. some of the wing feathers are red !! yaaaa

6 of the 7 birds

the black spotted one

7 of 7. 2 are under the bigger one
