September Hatch-A-Long!

celonecoop,
Sweet pictures of your children.
Seeing them with the chickens makes me think of my pet chicken Sweetie. She is an OLD barred rock.
Sweetie was raised by a little girl that carried her constantly from the time she was hatched..........
Now Sweetie thinks she is a people.. Sits on my lap, follows me everywhere chatting the whole time.
Sits on the back step and is known to tap on the door to remind me it is time for her treat.a grape.............
Bet you have some future pet chickens......=) Good luck with your hatch

How old?

my last problem was my turner. it rolled them with a stick but didnt roll them completely or too far. also, some of the eggs were tilted a little, so when they were going to hatch, their heads were at the small end.

they made it that far, and died the last day or two. back to hand rolling

the time before that, i didnt have a thermostat, and it peaked at 102 degrees one day. i have installed a water heater thermostat, and no problems now.
were you incubating shipped eggs? that would account for the malposition...the egg turning sounds sufficient to me...and the temp spike although not ideal is still within acceptable...

Thank you yes they love their chickens when we go out the bug ones run up and the kids like to carry the banty's and our turkey lolly (I don't know what their gonna do when she's to big to carry lol)

Glad I went and checked my bator this morning. I was going to up my humidity in preparation for what was supposed to be Wednesday hatch day. I opened my bator door and to my surprised heard chirping! 3 eggs have pipped already on day 19. My last batch of EE's hatched early and it was a great hatch. My Marans and RIR's were right on time but hatch rate was terrible...go figure. Hopefully have some pics by tonight!

If she slept on the roost, she's done. If you have an incubator you can move them there. Early in the incubation they can go idle for a day and still develop.

thanks i was excited that she was going to sit them but oh well i guess. if she dont get back in there by tonight ill steal them.. shes still hovering them and hissing if i get too close so maybe she just knows its hot enuf in there with out her lol.

When I was little, I turned a Tominto a pet. It just made me strong. I carried it around until it was 35-40 lbs. I couldn't see past it so I bumped into stuff but that didn't stop me. He was huge.

I am going to start my lockdown on day 19. I forgot to write down a lockdown and but them in on day 20. They all hatched. It is the only time that has happened. I had 3 out of the last batch that drown in a tiny bit of fluid because I tried hatching in a carton and they pipped at the lowest point and the liquid pooled there. Only 6 out of 25. 18 going into lockdown. So back to on their sides and I have 24 eggs. Fter everthing I have nowhatches, I am going to get a bunch of EE eggs locally. I will start them all at the same time, half dry hatch, half added water. Some in cartons, some lying down. I will start lockdown day 18, 19 and 20. Then I will finally know.
