I didn't even know they had eggs! I have never bought anything directly from them - I have bought a ton of things from people who did. I prefer to find a local source who has an established flock from them because then you can SEE what you are getting or who the parents were and avoid shipping. I would in no way say that GFF is "fake" - not perfect perhaps but who is? They have done a lot to bring breeds over from other countries that need help. Being that the breeds need help they are often lacking in that they are subject to inbreeding, flaws etc. BUT when they are say the last 100 birds of their kind you sort of expect to have a lot of work to re-establish the breed I think. The problem I think many have had is that you pay premium prices for less than perfect birds. On the one hand it is ridiculously expensive, time consuming, and riddled with red tape to import a bird - so I can see the justification for premium prices. On the other hand people get upset when they buy an Ayam Cemani pair for $5500 or whatever the going rate is and it has white feathers or mulberry combs because for the price they expect as near a perfect bird as possible. There have been issues with olive and green egg laying Crested Cream Legbars - but back in the UK that is actually accepted in the standard. There have also been issues with Rhodebars laying green eggs, which no one can figure out unless a CCL snuck into the rhodebar pens somewhere along the way. So, I don't think any breeder is perfect or any breed flawless - but its the premium prices that give people pause. I have heard some people that gush of the incredible customer service while others trash the terrible non-service they received. I can't reconcile the two as I have no personal experience. I can say that I have Isbars, Crested Cream Legbars, Swedish FLower Hens, Barthuhner, and Spitzhauben that all come from stock which originally came from Greenfire Farms and the birds while not perfect are absolutely lovely, unique and would not have otherwise been available to little old me her in Podunk Texas. So I am grateful for their ambitious call to bring endangered and rare chickens here for us to love, and am equally grateful to those before me that could afford to buy stock from them to breed so I can buy eggs from them, LOL!Has anyone on here ordered hatching eggs from Greenfire? If so what kind? I'm thinking about it but it's expensive and I want to be sure first. Some people have said it's all fake but so many more seemed to love them. I'd like to know what you guys think.
I barely know anything about genetics... just what I have picked up here. But look up Punnett squares on BYC and see if it helpsok so at what ages is it easyist to try and figure out what breeds are in a mutt??? i know all the hens and roos that could be the parents so that should make it easyier right??
all but 4 (i think) of the 33 i have are of my own hens and roos.
