September Hatch-A-Long!

I went to turn eggs this morning and found three chicks. Super early . 5 more pips. Expecting more when I wake up from my nap. Up really early to drug a egg deal in a dark parking lot this morning. So much for putting the hatchers away the winter.

Wondering if I should be worried. The little one that internally pipped has been that way for 36 hours. I candled it last night and it was moving but this afternoon at the 36 hour mark it is no longer moving. Any ideas or tips?

Went into lockdown last night. However one of the "window" had fallen off without me noticing. So my poor hubby spent the day checking and rechecking the incubator temps and humidity trying to get it stable. Since this is our second hatch and the first practically did it by itself, he had no experience with the incubator.

Say a little prayer they all survived.

Well the results are in. Of the ten we originially set, we had one early death that we didn't lockdown and another that failed to hatch. Now a week old, we had one little girl born with a slipped achilles tendon who we have been feeding with an eye dropper who passed today, sadly.

First hatch 75% hatch rate
Second hatch 80% hatch rate.

God is good, cause it sure isn't our fantastic skills keep them alive. All the remaining chicks are healthy and growing fast!!!

Just curious, but how do you know they internally pip?? Is that why you can hear them peep?

Because they are late to hatch I candles to make sure everything was okay in the shell and saw the pip that way.

I am crossing into the hard stuff. A couple mixed chicks leads to pure bred chicks to hatching mixed eggs to hatching pure bred eggs to expensive pure bred eggs to expensive chicks. Almost full circle. Starting with Mixed chicks(cigarettes) ending with Greenfire chicks (heroin). I can't help myself. I am being sucked in by the excitment of the unknown and the lure of the of something unique and special. I figure if I sell half, it won't be so bad. A pure breed mix batch. The excitment is almost too much. I have never had chicks delivered before. It's like a Chicken Christmas!

I haven't said yes yet. Anything from anyone here? Have any of you ordered from Greenfire? I have heard ggod and bad. Anyone? Anyone?
