September Hatch-A-Long!

So when can we expect the "Max and Me" book? I would buy it. Maddy and I love hearing about Max. nd her jammies are soooo cute. Right now Dottie is sleeping in a drawer of my dresser. It's big enough and deep enough to hold her, food and water and a heat lamp, but it won't hold her for long. DH and DD are going to Greenville today to a guy who has week old chicks. They are, hopefully going to find Dot Dot some little friends to keep her company. Then we will work on building them a bigger brooder. DH says if we get more chicks that we will miss out on all the time we get to love on Dottie...we say nope...just more to love, lol.

I've taken care of a chick when it's been sick and it followed me around but I've never had one imprint on me when it hatched. It's a lot of work and I had to have a turkey sitter to leave the house alone and I have to shampoo my carpet frequently but I love this little turkey.

Well...DD and DH brought home a chick. The place they went to had lots of rare breeds and the man they talked to gave them a chick free. So that they would tell others, he said...free advertising. Said it was a pure Ameraucana. Chocolate, even. Wow! I said...what luck. Bring her home. What they brought home was this big, sad, half grown lethargic chick who wouldn't eat or drink or even respond to us holding it. DH told me the man had the chick seperated for us when they got there and for the two hours they walked around the farm talking it had been in a small box with no food, water or heat.

I wrapped it in a towel and gave it a little sugar water and put it under heat. After an hour or so when it still wouldn't stand up or eat I disolved some medicated chick food in warm water and fed it some also through the syrenge. Couple hours later and I've been able to get it to eat a bit of scrambled egg and dry chick crumbles and gave it more water. It's poos are watery, but that might just be because I've been filling it with liquids. Poor baby still doesn't want to stand long or move around, just wants to snuggle in my hair on my shoulder and sleep. Am I doing the right things? Is there hope for it?

your doing great....how is it today

She, or he, I'm not sure, is a lot more active this morning. Chirruping and whistling at me and little Dottie. We got this chick because Dottie was a lone, and lonely, hatch but she was pecking the new baby. This morning when she tries to peck it it just stands up. But still walks squatty. Does that make sense? it is eating and drinking on it's own now. and still lets me pick it up for a snuggle. I'll post pics as soon as I get enough coffee in me to be able to focus.

Here are the pics.

Question. Can I give it a bath? It pooed all over itself last night and is a stinky mess this morning. It's little tufts are sticky and mashed down.
