September Hatch-A-Long

Tiny ducklings are so loving! They are so sweet with each other. When I hatched ducks and peachicks at the same time, I had the peachicks in the brooder already and they were kind of forlorn, not knowing what to do and when I put some ducklings in they started snuggling each other and the peachicks... it was the sweetest thing ever, teaching the peachicks how to snuggle and then they all fell asleep. Of course it wasn't long before the peachicks became pretty disgusted by how messy and obnoxious the duckilings quickly became!

it's been nearly twenty four hours for some and they are RACING around!! Crashing into everything, they have even dismantled the thermometer from its stand????? My boy wants to know how they undid the nut on the bolt!!

So how long should I wait out these eggs? I have ducklings that have been hatched for almost twenty four hours - can I leave them longer to give them food? A mother would sit on her eggs for a while longer surely. I still have 7 or 8 to hatch so i would like to give them another night to have a go at coming out...... ??

Well my 4 day early pip broke into a little "Gwennie" guinea unless it is a boy. So far I'm really feeling the "Gwennie" though, so maybe even if it is a boy. He's just whistling away at me, and really likes when I whistle back. He's so lonesome and beautiful and so soft I've had to cuddle him for comfort several times.

Now if only the other guineas and ducklings will hatch already. Two of the ducks have pipped but are stopped. I want at least one other to keep him company since all my other chicks are outside now.

I'm now up to 14/16 hatched.

Of the two remaining, one is almost done zipping and the last is showing no action, possibly a quitter but we'll see. I'll leave that one in for 24-48 hrs to make sure. Overall pretty good. :yesss:

Started with 32 eggs, 28 of those were shipped.

Of the 12 that made it to lockdown, all 12 hatched. Of the 4 from my neighbor (BCM/ameraucana mixes), 3/4 hatched, the last is the possible quitter.

I had an egg explode in the incubator on day 16. I wiped off what I could but didn't use any "cleaning agents" because of the chemicals. The possible quitter was one that got hit by the explosion. I might wait just 24 hrs before I candle it.

I put these 10 guys in a temporary tank for the pic, now to the brooder. :woot
