September Hatch-A-Long

3 more hatched over night 6 eggs to go a few are pipped can't see all the hatched chicks are bouncing them around like boing balls!

LOL, I can't work out how many I have left to hatch...the ducklings are getting hungry though - one is still drying out so I'll wait for the fluff :)

Doing my best resisting opening the incubator to remove chicks. Last hatch late spring only had 50% hatch prob because no real lockdown I'll prob remove them tonight.

NUP, I just re-read the guide to assisted hatching and it said the chicks can go three days without food or water - I thought it was one. Guess I will just sit on my hands!!! I'm pretty sure some are in trouble in there - one that pipped over 24 hrs ago, I don't hold much hope for that one....there are possibly about 5 that MIGHT hatch if I wait. It's worth it in my book (Disclaimer: I really have no idea how many have hatched and how many are still to hatch - it's mayhem in there! )

I am so jealous of all of you with chicks hatching and with weather that allows you to raise them this time of the year!

Nice chicks, and no matter how cute the baby ducks are, THERE WILL BE NO MORE WATERFOWL HERE, EVER.

That is a decree from the war department here, unless they just suddenly appear someday, and I have no knowledge how they got here.

Lock down is tomorrow. Saw some movement in one of the eggs today so may get an early hatcher. Got the hatching incubator humidity at 50% and temp is same as the incubator they are in now. I have 7 eggs that developed out 10. I thought I had an early quitter but once I cracked I was left with a baby chick about 3 days old with a heart beat :/ Which is why I am not throwing out my early quitters from my silkie batch until day 10. But out of the 10 eggs I originally started with had 1 early quitter, 1 clear and 1 i opened with the live chick. I am hoping to get 5 chicks out of this batch but we shall see :)

I'm now up to 14/16 hatched.

Of the two remaining, one is almost done zipping and the last is showing no action, possibly a quitter but we'll see. I'll leave that one in for 24-48 hrs to make sure. Overall pretty good.

Started with 32 eggs, 28 of those were shipped.

Of the 12 that made it to lockdown, all 12 hatched. Of the 4 from my neighbor (BCM/ameraucana mixes), 3/4 hatched, the last is the possible quitter.

I had an egg explode in the incubator on day 16. I wiped off what I could but didn't use any "cleaning agents" because of the chemicals. The possible quitter was one that got hit by the explosion. I might wait just 24 hrs before I candle it.

I put these 10 guys in a temporary tank for the pic, now to the brooder.

Good hatch, congrats! I love it when one can watch the little chicks pip and zip (don't know if you have, but I love it)

I'm on day 18! Broodies eggs on my farm normally start hatching on day 18!? So today is the day (should be, I think!)! I think I can already hear some of the eggs but I am not sure, I don't want to check them so I wont disturb the broody! I hate it when one can't disturb but one really wants to see!

My broody has 4 or 5 chicks under her so far :woot There are still a few u hatched eggs in there, though. Yesterday was hatch day, so I'm not holding out much hope for them. Especially since she's a very experienced momma hen and her eggs usually hatch around the same time. I'm gonna leave them for today and probably remove them tomorrow.
On a brighter note, I have another hen sitting! I took a dozen eggs out of the incubator and gave them to her. This is her first try, so :fl she does a good job! I have 8 eggs left in the incubator now. I don't like having so few in there, but I'd rather have a hen raise them than brood them myself. It wouldn't hurt my feelings one bit if another hen went broody and I could just clear the whole bator out ;)
