Its so hard to tell with pics and not getting to see the bird move....
Im going to have to ask for videos.....

I would just keep the ones that:

1. Have the shortest backs--you want to get rid of that first! Look at your roos now, before their hackles cover the length. Also----Make sure the tail bed is not too long and that the tail is away from the body, you want it short and close.

2. Chests! They are really important in making type. You want to look at the bird in pose and they really shouldn't have much of a neck or none--you want them to have a high chest and have a round (apple) upper body with wings attached on the sides

3. Wings should be vertical--you want them to just show the foot when they are standing up. Im still working on this, but it helps them to be vertical

4.Showiness...pick birds that are more in pose all of the time. I can take a not so great bird, put a strange bird near it and have it perk up more, or wait for the perfect shot..but really just get ones that show off most of the time--they can pass that on and it makes life easier and makes the serama live up to the name of being proud little birds!

Also Candace, I never thought to ask, but what is your ultimate goal with these? I have new goals set every year for what I would like to achieve and was wondering what yours was! Thanks!

Hey Jessi,
Thanks for the info. Its hard to get the lil boogers to get a good pic, a few of the roos will be all posed and then I take the picture and like hmmmm???
On the first batch I started to go and not keep the lighter color roo but when i got to looking at him he's got the verticle wings and seems to look like he has the shorter back. He's roo #3

The second batch looks alot better than my first one, but they all want to huddle up when I take pic's so its hard and if you take them out they get all crane necked and hunched down..LOL

I dont really have any short term goals with these, I'm looking more at long term I'd like to eventually be able to breed and sale these However I'm not goin to until I have breeding stock that I feel is up to "code" LOL

You really have helped me out alot with my serama quest, I'm still awaiting my Birthday eggs to hatch, I'm so excited!!!
