Serama Hatch-A-Long!!

Pics
Here's a pic of that boy in case either of you are interested. And actually I have his hatch date incorrect, he was from a mid Dec hatch, so a little younger than I stated above.

Don't think I can make it down to Eugene anytime soon. Thank you for the offer though. B.T.W My chick from August is definitely a roo. What very little comb he has started turning definitely red.

No worries, figured it was a long shot either of you would be interested anyway, but I wanted to offer just in case. I know how hard it is to get started with the silkieds. I lucked out that my first birds included a silkied hen and a carrier rooster, so I've been able to hatch some silkieds, but I'm not interested in line breeding the daughters to father. I'm currently growing out a cockerel that came from Castle Delight, and also have my ladies paired to a smooth boy so I can take the long route if this grow-out doesn't meet my needs for type.

It is so kind of you to offer! I'll have to see how my eggs do, especially if I end up getting more. If I only hatch one, it may just be a rooster : )

I wish I could go to the swap but as I am not a morning person, and live more than a couple hours away, I don't think I would be there very early!

How are your eggs doing? I'm currently waiting for more. There was an order in front of me so I'm hoping they ship this week.

I went to go check out some 2week old local serama chicks on Craigslist. The chicks were super skittish for hand raised & the parents were flighty, not great quality + no known silkied genes so I didn't get any.

My two serama mix chicks are friendlier than the silkie chicks I have. They jump right into your hands. All my chicks have been handled the same, and all love being petted but so far the serama X EE are really stand out human lovers.

I candled today and my eggs are in sad shape. I have one developing for sure, possibly two and one quitter. All rest of the dozen are clear. They have lost a lot of moisture in one week also. I put my other eggs in the hatcher or under a hen so I could raise humidity. I sent an email but haven't heard back. I just let them know what was up as kindly as I could, even though I really am quite upset about it. I am hoping they will offer to do something.

Check out my new little guy...

:love

Now all you need Is a few hens to go along with it

:drool

I know : ). He is a really sweet little guy too. I went to get more eggs yesterday and she gave him to me. A couple times lately I have had this experience where I get upset about something not working out the way I want, only to have things end up working out better! If only I could skip the upset part. :D
Anyway, I am treating my new eggs like shipped eggs and not turning for several days. I do not know why they are so delicate. From my original 12, I have one straight feathered egg still developing. The one Silkied egg quit. I was very careful to not over candle them so I don't know what's up but hopefully I can hatch something from the new eggs! I even put them on a tray in case the fan is too much for them. :fl
