So I am thinking of getting either a few Seramas or OEGBs. Which do you prefer? Any pros or cons to either? Who do you think have better temperments or make better pets? Let the battle of the breeds begin!

they are two totally different breeds first of all, oegbs are decendants of fighting chickens, so they have temperment issues, you will have to dub your birds combs and wattles for show. they are more common so you will have an easy time finding a REPUTABLE BREEDER TO BUY FROM. if you are looking to show, you will have to buy from a breeder as hatcheries sell poor excuses of breeds. oegbs are cheaper than seram. the oegbs are different than seramas, they are an accepted aba breed, have a completely different stance and standard, and come in different color varieties than serama. i like serama better, because they are more unpredictable, and unpredictability is what keeps things interesting and fun. Seramas are known for their vertical stance, and somewhat extreme pose, with their huge chests and straight tails, they stand more vetical. it depends on your preference, the extreme type and docile nature of a relatively bird native to Asia, or a classic elegant breed that has been bred for a long time in england

as i always preech, before you get a breed, join the breed club of that particular breed, this will open a gateway to knowledge and get you a front row ticket to the best connections and breeders, STUDY the standard drawings and descriptions, and then choose good birds from a good breeder.

I have bred OE's for years now and personally I prefer them over the others.Alot of people get the idea that they are little game cocks, but this is very far from what they are.As with any breed you will get one every now and then that's a little agressive but its usually when they are in breeding pens with their hens. Our young are very gentle as long as you handle them when they are growing up.You can go to our breed club for the Old English Game Bantam Club of America and get alot of information.

Thanks for the great info! I am not concerned with the dubbing as I don't plan on showing. And I THINK I am leaning more twords the OEGBs. I met a few this weekend and I LOVED them! They were so sweet and friendly! The person had Seramas too and said that he liked them because they come in so many colors and he said he thought they had a better temperment. But, they seemed more skittish to me. Also, I thought Seramas would be smaller and I know they have the different classes but these were bigger than the OEGBs and he said that at least with his line the OEGBs were smaller and had less variation in size.

I will deff look into joining the OEGB club. I went on their website for info but didn't find much..I guess if you join you get a lot more like a dog breed or horse breed club.

I did also look at their member pages to try and find a breeder but most didn't have websites and I couldn't find many on the East coast. Does anyone have a breeder they would reccommend? I know there is a guy on ebay who sells a lot of eggs but he dosn't have the best feedback so I would be nervous to try.

Most of the guys in the club will answer ant questions you might have about the Breed or the varieties that they come in.I dont know anyone that will sell eggs but I know a few that will sell and ship adults when it cools down a little. There are alot of members of the club from GA,AL,TN,NC,SC,and FL.Iam sure that one of them could help you find something that you like.

We have both seramas and OEGB. The seramas seem to make more of a pet, my little cockerel will follow me around like a puppy. I have several oegb that will fly up on my arm or shoulder whenever I enter their pen wanting held, but I dont think they would follow me around, lol. I have been told that serama eggs are a lot tougher to hatch out than most, while oegb are pretty simple and easy. Just a few more pros and cons

Thanks for all of the input so far!

What about if I want to try to breed? I know the Seramas have some hatching issues with the lethal genes and their eggs do not ship well. How do OEGBs compare with breeding and hatching?

Also, how does their size compare? I know there are different classes for Serama, what size is comperable with the OEGBs?

THANKS!
