Serious mass and butt dragging

You were right on. Found a grapefruit size yolk formed in layers and layers.

We put her out of her misery. Chickens just can't be comfortable walking around like a penguin. When I cut her open it was just one giant yolk in layers and layers. It was literally lbs of yolk the size of a grapefruit. It would have been impossible to pass and I am assuming it would always be a chronic issue.

I will share pics if anyone is interested.

Yes you did do the right thing...........poor girl.

Ettasmom

so sorry about your hen. It is a hard thing to go through for you to watch and the hen. I took one of mine to the vet last year and she performed the surgery to remove the mass of egg yoke in her abdomen. She weighed it and it was 2 lbs. Poor thing! She healed up nicely but unfortunately the vet didn't think she needed a hysterectomy and although she laid a few more eggs after healing, she started to lay internal again. This time it was just to sudden and I was unaware and she passed on. Poor sweet
Trooper. She was a fighter but this is an awful thing to have to endure.

to you!

I don't know if feathers have any relation to internal laying. Mine had yet to ever molt. The feather she had missing on her rump were where I clipped her to see better what was going on.

Ettasmama, I'm sorry for your loss. If you're willing to post pictures, it could really help others who might be facing the same scenario.
