Wow, I had no idea how completely addicting these little ladies (I hope) would be. But no, not just mine, everyone elses too - I am sitting here falling asleep at the computer reading posts, looking at pictures. I think I am need of a serious chicken intervention (not that I actually want that)! Oh and it is not just the chicks, chickens in general - looking at breed posts, oooing and aaahing over beautiful chickens. I think there is no hope of recovering. My daughter is just an enabler - or am I enabling her? We are totally obsessed and we have only had them a week tomorrow! We are totally mesmerized, and getting NOTHING done unless it relates to chickens.

Okay, I do have a question - I have one chick with diarrhea the past couple days. We are routinely checking vents, she had a little build up this AM and we got it off with a Q-tip. Is there anything we can do to help her overcome this? The other 5 are fine. I read that adding a little Apple Cider Vinegar to their water can help so I did that but not sure it is making a difference. She seems to be acting her normal self, very curious and active hopping from roost to roost to feeder to watered back to roost - very proud of herself as she jumps and looks at me like - "look what I did!". She is a week and a half old (born a week ago Tuesday).

I shall go watch my chicks for awhile before I head to bed. Thanks all!

They ARE fun, aren't they? Mine are 8 weeks old now and they're still tons of fun, but I have to admit I miss the little-itty-bitty phase :)

My chicks LOVE plain greek yogurt. It's supposed to help with digestion and be very good for them. That would be what I tried first for the diarrhea.
And if it didn't fix it, they'll love you for trying ;)

YOGURT TIME YUM

Thanks for your reply.
So if yogurt works, then I would assume Kefir would too? I was wondering about yogurt and kefir and if they were too young to give either one. I just made Kefir and I also have Greek yogurt too.

I just found another thread that had a link to pictures of normal poo (hee hee!) and it looks like what I am seeing falls into the realm of normal so we may be okay. Just a worry wart mama hen here.
