Seriously considering getting some chickens in South Alabama

<chuckle> Well, the instant gratification sounds good, but I'm in no big hurry...I think gettin' there is part of the fun, too.

But, logistically, getting chicks might be more appropriate for now. Thanks for the vote for the chicks!

Howdy. Thanks for the encouragement on incubating. I haven't decided yet which way to go....chicks or eggs. I'm probably overthinking everything as usual.

On incubating I've been eyeballing the 1588 and the turner. I've also looked at some of the homebrew incubators and wouldn't mind trying my hand at building one but will wait till later on to give that a shot. If the electronic thermostat wasn't so expensive I think I'd go ahead and give it a try. I've even searched the net for a circuit plan to build a precision thermostat...but have found little that's within my ability. If nothing else, maybe I could put together a hatcher to help keep the incubator clean. I'm a ham radio operator and like to tinker anyhow.

from Northwest Alabama. I'm just starting out myself and have 4 Buff Orpington hens and 1 BO rooster that's coming Sunday afternoon.

I started out with 2 couple months ago,now I have 14 chickens,22
chicks and 31 due to hatch Sunday. There, something about these
birds people like.
