Seriously, is there ever any way to get ahead?

I use those CFL bulbs. The ones that cost too much but last 10 years.

Check at your local Home Depot, they were clearing out some of those cfl's for .27 each. (they were left over from a promotion)

Or if you know some one with a Costco card, they sell boxes of 10? for about $3

We are going to Costco this weekend to get the membership, we may have to wait a couple weeks to shop there because the initial ttip DOES cost a fortune. We decided that we need to start buying in bulk and shopping once a month instead of every week. With increased food prices, buying healthy foods and the little one with us, our grocery bill has been $1200 a month!!!

I actually found I spend MORE when I go to Costco... I can find better deals if I work the flyers and coupons.

hey Debi.. if you are looking at raised beds.... Consider using pallets for your wood... mu hubby has built me a few raised beds using pallets... also our local steel roofing contractor .. his materials come in on pallets made from 2X4's so we collect them for a few weeks before we are planning a build

I was thinking about stuff like TP and paper towels, meat, stuff I can freeze. I buy produce a couple times a week so Costco would not be good for that stuff. Costco scares me though. All that STUFF!

I am such a BAD BAD impulse buyer.... and the fact they have clothes, and DVD's and seasonal stuff... I went grocery shopping one time and came home with a 12 man tent

I know that this isn't much but I stopped buying paper towels a long time ago. I have cloth dinner napkins ($2.00 for a pack of 10 at he Dollar General) that I use during meals. I wash and dry them and re-use them again. For general washing of hands, etc., I use cotton towels. Buying paper towels is costly. $$$$$

I know what you mean. We have those weeks too! The last week in December, I had $2 and some change in our checking account. DH about laid an egg himself! (I had just made our house payment & paid our property taxes which drained our household savings that I put away just for taxes and homeowners) BUT I did have cash on hand.

Good thing to remember at times like that ........ living on cash only, we are only in debt ONLY for our house. Nothing else - no car payments etc - other than basics like power, water, and food and monthly things like cable tv, internet, & cell service

We have the Girls inc. save us all their stale bread that publix donates to them. if it doesn't get taken by people she saves it for me now. It helps with the feed bill. maybe a resturaunt or bread company might do the same. i know the bread company down here did for my neighbor. they closed down and moved

raised beds for veggies is a great ideas! I wanna do a lettuce bed. also go to the dollar store and get the buckets they sell. cut a hole in the bottom and put a plant upside down in it. you just got a topsie turvey for $1 vs $20. I hang mine so that way escape chickens don't get to them. you can do tomatooes, zucchinies, yellow squash & pepper plants in tem.

we all know a 100 ways to use an egg......lol

toliet paper i buy in bulk. i don't waste my money on paper plates, cups or towels.

lemon juice is good for rinse in the dishwasher instead of that expensive stuff. I was everything in cold and only at night when electricity is cheeper.

We use metro and for 3 lines pay $110 including tax. unlimited web, texts, long distance & photo texts. it's like $35 a person..........

We use www.channelsurfing.net to watch shows we miss since we cut the cable & home phone.

many of us share in your pain Deb!
