Yippie! Out of the 19 LBs incubated, I was able to lockdown 10 (ALL 10 HATCHED Sunday!). I had incubated 11 frizzles (only one wasn't viable) I hatched out 10 frizzles yesterday. My 42 guineas ... well, I just locked down 41 viable eggs last night and have 14 pipped now. Most of them are rocking-and-rolling!

Most excellent hatch rate this go round! I LOVE my GQF!

So I place 12 eggs in lockdown Tuesday morning, go to get a shirt out of the wardrobe this morning and hear cheeps from the incubator! Hope I will find a b/s silkie chick hatched when I get home........

Bad news!! The cheeps must have been from outside as on day 23 we candled and there was nothing in the eggs.......

I ordered 6 khaki campbell duck eggs from someone on ebay, I got them today, she shipped 1 extra but it was cracked then I candled them to make sure none smelled, one was bad but two of them ended up being chicken eggs! So now I have 3 good healthy looking duck eggs and two what I think are leghorn chicken eggs that also look healthy, put them in the bator not to long ago. Happy hatching!

Ok, none of my first set of two dozen eggs hatched. In the first dozen, there were a lot of clears and a few early quiters. In my second dozen, there were around 6 clears, five early quiters and one late quiter. I had a lot of temp problems (a ball would have bounced less) and I think that had a lot to do with the quiters. I am thinking that the clears are because the eggs were shipped.

Because I am a glutton for punishment, 2 1/2 days ago I put in another six Silkie eggs. The temps are a lot more stable and so far everything looks great so far.

I have another 6 Silkie eggs coming in the next few days and will again end up with a staggered hatch. I am also toying with the idea of ordering 6 Orpington eggs (bantams) to go in with the second set of Silkie eggs. There is some other Orpington eggs (LF) I am also thinking about getting but the breeders' hens have gone into moult and they won't be laying again for around two weeks. So I might as well make them a whole seperate incubation. After this I am definately quiting for the year!!
