Set Eggs 07-02-11 Anyone else

I set 11 Lav Ameracaunas and 3 Blue Ameracaunas. Day 3 tonight, so I candled. I couldn't wait.

Some are porous, but can see veining in 11 so far. 2 of the blues have tiny crack, so I put a small piece of scotch tape over them. I hope it works

I set some under my broody BO that I found after nesting somewhere (I looked everywhere

) but I found her and set her on the 3rd on the fertile eggs that I got from my mother and father in law. They got all of their chickens and rooster from the same place that we did so we just swapped some eggs since we don't have a rooster. I am pretty dang excited and hoping that this all works!

If I set them on the 3rd at night, when would be a good time to candle for the first time?

I just set 12 eggs with two broody hens. I am so excited. Is there anything special I need to do? This is my first time with eggs, we normally order baby chicks.

Same for me! I started with 19, pulled one because it was badly cracked, even though it was growing. Those cracks looked like a hand grenade waiting to explode. At least 16 of the remaining 18 are growing, but several are pourous. I guess I'll just keep checking for smells. I was so discouraged at day 5, I had decided I'd better get used to the idea of a small hatch rate. But now that I see so many chicks growing, I'm thinking I better get used to the idea of a brooder full of chicks

Every time I incubate I learn a new lesson. This time: wait until at least day 7 before you form any conclusions.

You know what I ws thinking someone should try to invent?...a candling incubator! An incubator with bright LED light built into the turner cups, so when you want to candle, you just turn it on and the eggs light up! Then we'd never have to open the bators.

(I know...probably not practical, but I bet someone could do it)
