set eggs 2/5/11 due 2/25/11 anybody else?

We had a huge wind/rain storm that knocked power out for 24+ hours and it was cold, so all the eggs, the BCM, the CM and the Midget White turkey eggs did not make it

We have more BCMs in as well as Blue Orps. We are trying again with Midget Whites.

My 7 bantam faverolle's I hatched in Feb. are doing great and growing and are beautiful!

Oh, I'm surely addicted in the few short months (a little over a year). I'm so excited though, my boyfriend found our first Narangansett turkey egg of the year....YEAH!! My poults from last year went so fast, it made my head swim! they were friendly, hand raised once hatched by moms but this time, I am taking no chances and will put the majority in the bator, but will keep a few out for the hens to brood on just to see.

Last year, they brooded (3 hens) and somehow wound up smashing quite a few eggs (32) so we wound up with only 8 poults

....I don't know if the tom did it, or the hens were so broody that they smashed eggs, poults etc.,

Out of about 100 BCM eggs, we've managed now to hatch approx. 25-30 chicks. We lost so many in the power outage that would have added about another 25?

this may just been a stong chick but the egg got smashed on one side took it out if the incubator that morning thinking it was done and put in a tabel and forgot to pitch it woke up the next morning and had a broken egg and a chick sitting on the tabel so if you power goes out again dont give up hope you may be surprised. wait i littel and candel when you think thier bad watch for movement.

On another note, our big roo Mr. Sprig

goes to a new home today and a new flock of girls. I only have about 4 more months to wait to see if his daughters lay nice colored eggs before I consider keeping one of his sons. But in the meantime, there are several little roos-in-the-making (growing up) that may get to step in his footprints but with better quality. We will see, lots of $$ spent on diversifying and lots learned, much more to learn (like forever?) and its a fun journey.

Welp its saterday night have 36 more eggs left in the incubator so far the hatch is to 174 chicks plus 3 that didnt survie during the break throw but the 36 left in some is just starting to peep out. not bad if i say so my self started out with 220 eggs some wasnt firtal took out after 2nd week

OPPS forgot to meation 7 out of 8 Black copper Marans have hatched and the last one has started hope it makes it will be all 8 of my maran eggs made it. HEE HAA
