Set eggs 3/5. Looking for others to hatch with!

Hi everyone. Can I join in too? I set 18 EE eggs and 1 sizzle, and 5 call duck eggs yesterday. I also have 10 ancona mix duck eggs due 3/17 and 4 due 3/21.

WELCOME!!!!! Wow, you sat a lot of eggs. I started with a few and then the next day added more and then the next day took a bunch out. But I keep reminding myself of the eggs I put under two broodies! I'm just really nervous I won't be able to sell or give these guys away. I just did it because I wanted to see what colors my partridge roo would make with my partridge girls and the only two chicks from them I have right now are so pretty I just wanted to see what a few more would like look. It's so hard to bring those eggs inside and watch them sit in the cartons just knowing there could be the most adorable baby waiting to grow inside of it. I used to eat the silkie eggs, but I can't bring myself to do it any longer.

You sound like me!

Not that I'm trying to encourage you, but did you see WestKnollAmy has another auction going for her MF cochin eggs? I love looking at pictures of her flock...they are so pretty.

I already have some of the ducklings sold, and plan on selling most of the EE. I am only keeping any calls, and I think 3 EE. If I can manage to hatch them, lol. The duck eggs are mine, but everything else was shipped. The duck eggs are developing 14 out of 14 though, so I think I've finally got the temp right and stable. The sizzle egg I'm pretty sure isn't fertile, but thought I might as well try while I was setting chicken eggs. I know what you mean, that's why I incubated the duck eggs. It's hard to eat them when they could be ducklings in a month instead, lol.

What kind of incubator are you using?

No I didn't see it. I wish I had not oredered 1 of the dozen I ordered because I would have room for them.
Yes she has the most beatiful birds. I told her I wanted to order from her. Maybe later.

I also got a PM from a lady Goregialee on here. She offered me eggs but I had to turn her down. Maybe I will have to go buy a second incubator.

The other half would kill me! LOL

Do you have any cochins? They are my absolute favorite!

I agree, sneak in a new incubator! I don't have cochins, but am very interested in them. I gladly admit I have a thing for fluffy, small chickens. I do the silkies right now and am trying to stay focused on buying breeders and getting a very nice flock going, but I get sidetracked along the way while I'm looking. I am hoping to get some bantam buff brahma eggs this weekend and some lavander Ameraucana eggs or chicks too and I think eventually cochins would go perfect with these three!!! I do also have some Seramas around here that I sort of lucked into and they are really cute, but I had wanted to sell them and my husband said no......I watch the auctions and have been learning about the cochins and sometimes see you putting bids in and just thought of you when I saw this new one come up this morning and wondered if you would be bidding there. What do you look for in a good quality cochin?

Me personally, I look for type. color patterns are really not as huge of a deal to me. They must have good type and foot feathering. If it looks like it has something else in there I dont keep it.
I will probably never get into showing but I am very picky about type.

I have been very disapointed a few times when I was sold a chick that as it matured you could tell it had something else in there somewhere.

Back to the hatch. I have been maintaining good temp until overnight. Somehow it spiked overnight and I have had a hard time get the temp back in line.

I was inspired by this website http://cmfarm.us/humiditycontrol.html to make a humidifier. I took a ziplock container (the tall square one) and cut thee lid up so I can have different surface areas for different humidity, then hooked up a fish tank air pump to a light switch (for now) so I can turn it off and on, and added an air stone. When it is turned on it is like a humidifier! I bought a humidistat (humidity thermostat) off eBay and should ship tomorrow so I can make it automatic.

I candled a few eggs and 5 of the 6 I pulled had veins!! And one with veining is the EE double yolker (only saw veins to one, but the shell is quite thick and blue). So exciting! We are going to do a full candle tomorrow on day 6.
