Set eggs 3/5. Looking for others to hatch with!

t made me think things were not right is that they eggs looks so empty. not full enough. usually it is all dark where you see nothing beyond the air cell and these had lots of room to grow still. I wondered about even putting them to lockdown but figured I might as well. was really thrilled to hear the peeping yesterday. when I candled them they were moving up a storm... just still had rom in there.

Good Morning Everyone,
Thought I would get a little dose of BYC and read up on my incubating buddies before heading to church!
I have a confession to make -no, not the Catholic kind! I'm admitting to you guys that I did something I'm not supposed to do (per DH)! Last night I contacted someone that has Black Copper Marans and Olive Eggers. She just lives about 30 minutes from me, so I'm going to get a dozen mixed eggs for my next project! She will sell me 6 of the dark BCM eggs and 6 olive OE eggs. They'll only cost $10 plus gas! My Silkies are due to hatch Friday, April 6.

I asked if I could get them about the second week in April to let my bator cool down for a (short) while-LOL!

I haven't mentioned this to DH so wish me luck in that area! I'm also on the hunt for another inexpensive coop and run ideas. I e-mailed someone on Craigslist that has a coop and a bunch of chicken wire (for $100) which I could re-purpose, but haven't heard back from them.

I hate when someone beats me to a good deal. Kind of like the time I saw 2 HovaBators for $60....the day AFTER I ordered mine from Strombergs for almost $150!!!!!!!!!!!

The butter EE is a keeper we'll name either "Honey" or "Ginger"

And this guy would be a keeper, but it acts like a "roo". Love the tuxedo look!

I finally made the decision to reach in and pull the one egg since none have pipped. as soon as I put my hand on it I heard it peep and it moved. I put it back and sprayed warm water thru the holes on top of the incubator and I am leaving it all alone. Glad there were no pips, so that 3 second lift should not hurt anything... hope.. I really wanted to make a small air hole for it but I resisted...

every goose I have ever hatched I have had to assist. I have never lost one but was determined to not do it this time. My humidity has been good all thru lockdown. But to not even have a pip is disturbing. I may go ahead and pull that one since I know it was alive. Just to make a pip in the end and look in. but if I go there, I have to be ready to go all the way. I really feel it is already gone. I keep thinking I hear something then realize it is birds outside. I have windows open and they are really noisy today...lol

That kept happening to me too! I would hear peeping, then go to the incubator just to find out that it was birds.

OH MY GOODNESSSSSSS!!!!!! Did someone get overcome with chicken fever or what, LOL!!!! I try to time my confessions to my husband on Sunday morning right after I wake him up for church while he is still really groggy and then if I have a few tidbits I haven't spilled my guts on yet I tell him those right in the church parking lot while we're walking in from the car. I am so glad you don't live closer to me because we would get each other into so much trouble!!!!! Our DHs would have to kick us and our chickens out! I think the BCMs are a great choice. It seems like people love the dark colored eggs, if you were to sell some. I don't know what an olive egger is. I will have to check those out as I have been hearing a lot about them lately while I've been on my chicken hunts.
I am planning a road trip to Indianapolis very, very soon. A cochin breeder is up there and she just listed chicks in blue and mottled!!!!! Oh, boy, I need some of those. I could get a few red ones too. I'm going to win the cochin auction tonight......I KNOW I'M GOING TO WIN THE COCHIN AUCTION TONIGHT!!!! I'm going to be that determined.
Yippppeeee.......chickeeeesss!!!!!
Good luck, Cali Chick.

one is partially out.. he seems stuck in the bottom of the shell and yelling up a storm and another one is pipped. hope to wake up tomorrow to at least one more baby.
