Set eggs 3/5. Looking for others to hatch with!

My EE chicks are doing great today.

They are officially one day old. My son and 2 neighbor kids even had them out, holding them while I supervised like a mother hen. The chicks were very curious and even ate a little chick scratch. They weren't scared or flighty, but friendly and playful. After their 5 minute playtime, they were all tuckered out and took naps in their warm brooder.

On another good note...I candled my 13 slikie eggs last night. Everything looked good!

They are on Day 15 today - Lockdown Tuesday - Hatch Day Friday! They are my Easter-Hatch-A-Long eggs.

The Ameraucanas are large and the incubator is a Hovabator with a auto turner that I borrowed from my FFA chapter seeing as no one in my family has ever owned chickens. The picture above is my rooster Richard. I got him at an auction and have been in love with him when I first saw him and said that I had to buy him.

Oh, no.....I read that and I thought, wow, you have a ways to go and then I remembered I sat some on the 23rd and then on the 31st! I have a long ways to go too! I don't expect a very good hatch rate on the first batch I have in, but I have high hopes for the second batch I set. The first were flown in from the other side of the USA. The second batch came from very close to me and were trucked in. They are cochin eggs and I am very excited about them.

my goose eggs went on lockdown thursday night. Yesterday morning one of them was rocking up a storm and making lots of noise....since aobut noon yesterday....NOTHING. it is still and quiet. is it pretty safe to assume it died? the other five have never peeped or moved that I have seen. I was gone all day yesterday and really hoped to ocme home to babies.. They are in the room with me so I know there was no peeping overnight or I would have heard it. The official hatch day is today so I am still crossing my fingers... but not to hopeful because they just didnt look right when I candled them before lockdown. The one that was peeping... just how much air do they havve in the airsack? enough to keep them going for over 24 hours with no pip? thanks

I'm not sure what to tell you. My last batch went that way. On day 21 the eggs started rocking and rolling and they didn't hatch. I had tried the dry hatch method and they were shrink wrapped inside the inner membrane. Mine were still barely alive by the next morning. I had taken them out of the incubator and candled and I heard one still cheeping in the egg so I opened them up very carefully. I am not very good yet at assisting so none made it. I can't remember how much air they have after the internal pip, but if you search in the box at the top I bet you will find a lot. Would you feel comfortable taking them out of the incubator and listening to them and candling again to see if there are any shadows in the air cells?

every goose I have ever hatched I have had to assist. I have never lost one but was determined to not do it this time. My humidity has been good all thru lockdown. But to not even have a pip is disturbing. I may go ahead and pull that one since I know it was alive. Just to make a pip in the end and look in. but if I go there, I have to be ready to go all the way. I really feel it is already gone. I keep thinking I hear something then realize it is birds outside. I have windows open and they are really noisy today...lol

I know how you feel on thinking you hear a baby chick. I too have that happen. What did you see when you candled before lockdown that made you think something might not be quite right?
Good luck with making the pip and checking. I know it's not an easy decision to make. And it sounds like you have experience in assisting so you will know what best to do. I will be keeping your other gooslings in my thoughts today.
