Set eggs 3/5. Looking for others to hatch with!

Okay, I've decided on some names for my chicks. The brown duckling is Anerea, the yellowish duckling is Avery, the rhode island red chick is Maroon, and the white leghorn chick is Lucky.

Yes, it is an igloo. I am chalking the bad hatch up to the power outage. All that went to lockdown at eggtopsy quit right around that time frame.

I'm sorry, I hope you don't think I am equating your hatch with the fact that you have a homemade incubator. I was wanting to ask you for a few ideas. I need to make another hatching box and my DH found an Igloo down at Goodwill for a couple of dollars. It's tiny, but I am going to use both and then I can have less chicks in each one for the hatch and keep my colors separated.

Mine seemed to have done the best from a state or 2 away. My eggs from texas and oklahoma have done good, the one's from new york, louisiana and florida didn't.

I see what you mean. I'm in Ohio and eggs arrived this week from Indiana and Ohio and they look like I picked them up out of the yard. I got eggs from Oklahoma and they look great. The eggs from TX were rough and the ones I got from WA were rocky. We asked at the PO and if the area they come from is close enough, the eggs are driven. Obviously if it's far away they get on an airplane. So I'm guessing it's the air pressure that is hard on them?

All 5 chicks are done hatching.

They are in the bator resting and fluffing up. They are so much darker than I expected for Easter Eggers.....Maybe they really are Ameraucanas? I'll take a picture of everyone when they dry off better. They are sort of spread out around the incubator so it's hard to get a group shot.

Here is a picture of the first one out, though...........

Wow! I've been gone all day and I haven't even gotten to the next page yet and your babies hatched!!!!! It's beautiful! Can't wait to see what happens next. Congragulations.

Well I heard one peeping and pecking inside the shell so Im hoping thats a good sign

I've been gone all day so I'm just now catching up! Peeping and pecking on the inside means it has internally pipped and now you need to leave it alone. Leave them all alone for right now. If the latest one you sat was the 9th, then today is 21 days. There could be others that will hatch over the next few days. Make sure your broody has feed and water very close to her as she won't get up and she will sit there and teach the chicks how to eat and drink. Don't mess with them....don't mess with her. Mine usually potty in the nest so I do poopy scoop to keep it clean. When everything is finished, she will get up. Even if everything hatches, she will sit tight for about another week...at least this has been my experience and this is my third time doing it so I am not an expert!!!! If you go sit very quietly next to the box and are very quiet and very, very, very patient, you will get to see little chicks popping out from under the hen. Look around her wings especially. It's so cute to see their little head peeking out. And then sometimes you will get to see the chicks come out to eat and drink. It takes time so you have to be extremely patient, gentle and quiet.
Congragulations on your pipps. Please keep us posted. Momma hens are so much fun! I love to watch them do their thing.
Also, I don't know what others do, but I have banties and I use a coffee bean grinder and grind the chick food up for them since they are so little. And make sure the chicks can reach the feed and water so make sure everything is very low.

Oh, no, I know. I built mine from ideas I got from here and on youtube (rushlanepoultry), and the rolling turner came from a youtuber user name tlgrimmy.

I have a pip this morning and its peeping up a storm in that shell!!!! How long does it take to hatch?

I could take over 24 hours to hatch. It might not start zipping until MUCH later, so don't expect a baby chick just yet!

I had one pip Thursday morning...It started zipping FRIDAY morning (4 am)....and hatched Friday around 6 am. Whatever you do -leave it be- and wait!
