Set eggs 3/5. Looking for others to hatch with!

I set 18 on the 2nd. also some duck eggs on the 1st and turkey eggs on the 5th. Good luck!!! OOps... I set mine in April... still a long way to go... Love the pictures..

Good!!!! I have some set to go into lockdown in four days and then I set some more on the 23rd of March and I just set another batch tonight....and I have my eye on an auction over on ebay for MF cochins.
Are duck eggs hard to hatch out? How do you do it....how many days are incubation and what are the humidity requirements? Can you incubate chicken eggs and duck eggs at the same time? We got Pekin ducklings yesterday. They are my daughter's. She wants to sell ducklings and eggs from them. The man said you can sex them according to their squeak. I'm hoping he's right and I have four girls and two boys! If not, I just hope they are not all boys, LOL!
I met someone today who was sexing Ameraucana chicks by holding them upside down. She said if they don't squirm they are a girl and if they squirm they are a boy. So you know I've been hanging my chicks upside down tonight! According to this method, I have more girls than boys.....or else my boys are just wimps!
Cali Chick, hurry and get more eggs and incubate/hatch with us!!!!!!!

How do you get a partridge? Everyone in my family is enjoying the variety of colors...even DH is "cooing" over them, which is rare! I have no idea what color they really are yet. They change every time I look in the brooder.

I don't think the 3 chicks in the bator made it (and I have NO idea what went wrong for them). I didn't want to just throw them away....Maybe they're sleeping? If they haven't moved by morning, I'll throw them into the compost.

Ask me no color genetics questions and I will tell you no lies! I have partridge so together they make partridge, but I don't think anything is 100%, is it, unless you have birds that are 100% a certain color, but then how do you know they are 100%? I saw black silkie eggs that were 100% black go for 160 bucks awhile back on here. Wow! I want chickens that make eggs like that. It's like a golden chicken!
The pullet I bought today is partridge and she came from a black cock to white hen. So obviously she's not 100% partridge, but she has such great type I think any chick she throws would have huge potential.
Really, though, now that I think about your question, you yourself could make partridge by going back to the silkie breeder and buying a dozen eggs. Ta..da....in 21 days you would have partridge. My chickies change a lot too. I was just down looking at them and noticing how different they are today from yesterday.
Well, keep your DH cooing.....that is a definitely a good thing.
I'm sorry about your chicks in the bator.

On my last hatch I had one Rhode Island Red chick that pipped and died. I didn't look at it too much except to confirm death. I had my hands too full with the little chicks. I just figured some of them don't make it out.
If you were talking to my DH he would tell you to give them vitamins. He thinks they are the cure all for chickens!!! Anything that appears to be near death he's like, GIVE IT VITAMINS! My DS and I get the biggest tickle out of it. I have to give him credit, it does work sometimes, but it's just so funny. I tell him if he should ever be near death I'm going to give him vitamins and see if I can revive him, LOL!

HaHa! We did that with a batch of our previous silkies and 2 would fight to be free and 2 would just lay there..........THEY WERE ALL ROOSTERS!

About doing another hatch.....I really should take a break. I'm going to clean both incubators and put them in the sun to dry this afternoon.

I kind of think the same way....already got Sav-A-Chick in their water and also add Poly-Vi-Sol vitamins.

Some of the babies have discovered the food and drink the water, but mostly they all just want to sleep.

Happy Easter! I'm actually home with another bad headache today. All I want to do is sleep.

Finally got the hatcher to work, and on the 3rd hour in, 99-100* & 60%. I am going to fire it back up in a few dats and add a second small bowl to see if I can get another 5% on the humidity. It is just a 48qt styrofoam cooler for now. What I want to do is build a 6-8 dozen capacity incubator and use the igloo-bator and the new styro-hatcher as my hatchers. Then I will be set.

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about!!!!!!
Are you sure 6 - 8 dozen will be large enough, LOL! I want a HUGE cabinet incubator. My DH was in the garage looking at the fridge his mom gave us and was like, hummm. Oh, baby, yeah. Bring it on. I can't wait until next year when I have my silkies paired up and in breeding pens and the babies on the other breeds I'm hatching grow up and I can incubate from my own flock....plus all the other stuff!

Sorry you don't feel good. Hope you had a nice Easter despite it all.
And I did not like your roo comment. According to the hanging method I have one boy and four girls in my Ameraucanas, which is just what I wanted! What will be worse is the ducklings we bought the man said you can sex them by how loud they squeak...girls have a higher pitch. So I had wanted three girls, one boy, but then he had a two day old duckling and he thought maybe, not for sure on it, it might be a girl. So there was five girls, one boy. I'm ready to go and he says you might want another boy. Why, I ask? He says in case something happens to your boy you have a backup. Okay. I like that thinking....give me one more and make it a boy. Now, this will be perfect if it is all true, but there is a really big part of me that says it couldn't be that easy and I'm just a huge sucker!

It is such a good thing that Ohio and Nort Carolina is not any closer together, LOL - speaking of enabling... I need some silkie eggs, I cannot find a pretty flock in this area (my town anyway, and selling eggs not chicks), how much are BBS going for where you are (your close enough to trust shipping), I am looking for about 8 eggs.

I don't have any eggs myself. I only have one splash girl and my little boy died last winter. I have BBS in the incubator from Catdance Silkie that goes into lockdown.......on WEDNESDAY!!!!
I did meet someone that has awesome chickens and she is in KY. Her name on here is marneypoo.
Her ebay name is mintujenkins.
She is on here a lot. I just checked and it says the last time she was on here was 44 minutes ago. I really, really liked her. I bought her calico roo that won BV at the show Saturday and all of her stock comes from the best breeders. I also got a dozen hatching eggs in partridge and buff.
If you can't find her, PM me and I will help you.

Okay.....I know I just announced it, but lockdown is Wednesday on my silkie eggs and lavendar Ameraucana eggs. I think I am going to have to go down and candle and see what I think is making it to lockdown so my DH knows if he needs to make my second hatching bator.
I picked up 15 Faverolle eggs today!!!!! I hope they develop. I'm on the hunt for some SQ porcelain D'uccle eggs. I think I have found a few good breeders to buy from!

Oh, my gosh, those are cute....what in the world are they????

Any advice on ducklings? We bought some yesterday. They're just Pekins so don't wrinkle your nose, anyone. I have had so much of that in the last day it's not even funny. Was I missing something....is there something wrong with Pekins???? It's what my daughter wanted, LOL, and she loves them. She totes them around everywhere with her all day long. I tried to get her to get some SQ call ducks, but she said they were ugly...too funny. I thought they were fabulous. I would have snatched them up in a heartbeat.

They are blue slate/royal palm mix turkeys. I love ducklings, and I think pekins are beautiful. They are messy messy messy though. Just make sure you either feed them gamebird feed or supplement them with niacin. They need it for strong legs, especially pekins which grow fast. I feed gamebird feed, but ask in the duck section and they'll tell you how much if you use the niacin supplements.

Oh, I meant to say, "I think I may have some SPLASH babies"!

The white ones look like little polar bears and one of the light blues has the chubbiest cheeks -it looks like a teddybear. Here are some more individual pictures that my son took.................and I might as well put some recent pics of the EE chicks too.

Hope you don't mind.

And some of the week old Easter Egger chicks
