I've wondered the same thing. I saw someone had them colored while they were still in the shell so when they hatched they knew what was what. How cool would that be?

I bought a few colored chicks a couple years ago. They were cute little things, and whatever dye they use is very vivid, lol. I think they inject it in the shell too, but don't know anything else about how. I've dyed mine, adult silkies, before, but I used vinegar and food coloring and sprayed it. I also do that to mark babies.

You have to use a syringe and food coloring. I am sure I have seen a tutorial for it somewhere before.

It is illegal to sell them in some states though as a novelty.

I saw a breeder who colored the chicks during incubation and then when they hatched you knew which breeder it was from. It was really neat because they had a picture of the hatchling coming out of the shell and it was like a bright pink or something crazy like that. I would like it for that reason, not to try to sell them. Nifty idea for separation.

I would love to be able to do that who mark who came from what. Since I also use food coloring to mark boys/girls I'd end up with some odd looking colors though, lol.

I don't know what you look for, but wanted to ask how your baby chicks are doing and how your duck eggs are?
What are you planning to do with the chicks you hatched out?
