Set eggs 3/5. Looking for others to hatch with!

We have hatchlings! 5 so far 3 more pipping and a few slow pokes. I have a problem though. One of them is different from the others. It's been out now since 4pm yesterday it has moved around, flapped it's wings, peeped, etc. Mostly it just lays there. There was a lot of blood in its shell and it looks like something is poking out of its bottom. Any ideas?

It might have some of the yolk still outside it's body, which it will hopefully absorb. Or, it could be the "umbilical cord" which might dry and fall off. Or, it could have some of the actual intestines outside the body.

Not sure exactly.

Just keep an eye on the little guy and it will hopefully be OK as it fluffs up and gains strength.

I have been reading on here in other threads and that was the conclusion I came to. I have him separated from the others, in the incubator but with a barrier. Does anyone know should I clean the area at all?

(IMHO) I wouldn't touch him. It's good that you've got it sort of seperated away from the more active chicks-but I personally wouldn't do anything else. I've had chicks with a bit of cord attached and it ended up falling off on its own and the chicks were fine. On the other hand, I've heard of people trying to push the intestines back inside and basically casusing alot of pain, suffering and slow death. I recently had a chick with a problem that I helped out of the shell.........I did everything for it, but it was so weak and sick. I had to put it down myself when it was 4 days old. It was so hard to do, but maybe I shouldn't have intervened in the first place?

Yes, leave it alone. I had one hatch out last time like that, I did what I could for it, but it died. Poor thing just stayed weak but held on for 3 or 4 days.

We have 4 out, one zipping and 2 pipped right now. Out of 21 eggs.

Just got home and I have 7 hatched and one more pipping right now. So happy that everyone seems to be full of energy.

My baby with the yolk sack problem has perked right up. The little "bubble" is half as big as it was and he has found his legs. I even caught him climbing over his little barricade. Of course he has found a friend who seems to be encouraging him along. So I am feeling a lot more optimistic now. Even excited. There are 4 more left to hatch. Today is the actual 21st day so I'm not worried just yet. Although all but one of my bantams have hatched there is just one left. I did make a note in my journal at lockdown that one bantam seemed a litte smaller and did not move in the egg as much as the others.

I sincerely appreciate y'all answering my questions and the support and encouragement I have found here at BYC. I think I would have lost my mind a few times over without it.

I'll be posting pictures as soon as everyone is ready for their close up!

I set 12 eggs on 4/5 in a homemade incubator. One egg was cracked and had a giant airspace so I took it out. I had trouble keeping the humidity high enough but its been anywhere from 40-50% now. Only 8 days left, I'm so anxious!! First time using an incubator so I really hope this works. The eggs are from some americuna mutts, they're all green! Can't wait to see what I get!!! I'm holding on to some duck eggs to hatch after these hatch.
