Set eggs 3/5. Looking for others to hatch with!

Out of the 36 I started with, 24 made it to day 14 and 20 made it to lockdown today! I am so excited! This is a way better rate so far then the first go round. Hatch day is the 18th, then I have (right now) 8 due 7 days later, and 4 due 7 days after that. I just set 24 more, but the eggs are a little older then I would like, so I am not holding my breath too much on them. I am having the hardest time hatching my Ancona and Minorca eggs though, seems like most will make it to day's 7 or 14 then quit before lockdown.

Oh, and I had a naked neck almost get tossed, the little bugger is not quite taking up the whole egg, and was still as could be when I candled. I decided to re candle the tossers one more time only to find it moving after it had cooled a bit, so I hurried up and got it into the hatcher. Pretty good playing possum for a chicken, LOL.

It is sometimes easier to look for veins. When they die the veins collapse so if you can see veins, it should still be alive.

Well today is hatch day I had 4 hatch and 9 that pipped and one that is almost out. This is exciting for my first hatch. Hope I have some in the bator tomorrow.

So excited for you!

Here's hoping the others all hatch too.

PS-Don't forget the pictures!

x2. I usually candle around day 10 when things are easy to see if they are developing or not. Anything that makes it past that gets kept until everything hatches unless it is obviously bad, stinks, or leaks. I'm too scared I'll think an egg is dead and kill it, it's very hard to see movement or veins close to hatch.

I never put ones into lockdown that are not at least 1/2 the egg filled though. The Anconas and Minorcas are just being so finicky. Today is day 20 so I am hoping for an early bird or two.
