Set eggs 5-12 Looking for hatching buddies

Friday is my hatch day so lockdown is tonight for my single patched little egg. It still looks good, big red veins, a nice big air cell. I'm hatching mine in an egg carton. Good luck everyone wishing you good hatches.

23 out of 42 eggs going into lockdown tomorrow evening

21 silkie eggs and 2 bantam leghorns!

Where did you get your silkie eggs? Do you raise them? I'm thinking about getting some for my kids and possibly letting them show them.

OK...I put 1 in lockdown Sunday & 8 more today...however, when I candled last night I discovered over half of my eggs were bad. Most were scrambled in the shell from shipping, a couple were infertile & a couple started but died. Several from 1 shipment had bacteria growth and appeared to have been washed as the eggs were spotless & all the other shipments had at least small amounts of dirt or stains.
Out of 88 original eggs, here is what I have left:
2/8 Mixed Bantam eggs (from my own hens)
6/8 Silkies
2/3 Ameracunas
0/1 Partridge Rock
0/1 Partridge Cochin
0/1 Blue Cochin
2/12 Lemon Cuckoo Orps
10/16 BYM (includes Ameracunas, BCM, Silkies, etc)
0/2 Coronation Sussex
1/4 Assorted Orps
6/12 Lavender Orps
0/3 Rosies (BYCer project bird)
0/3 BYM (came with the Rosies)
5/7 Assorted Call Ducks
1/2 Assorted Indian Runner Ducks
2/2 Saxony Ducks
1/2 Black East Indie Ducks

43/88 Still viable
9/13 Ducks viable
34/75 Chicks viable

The only shipments I'm a bit upset with are the 1 that had all 6 eggs bad & the 1 that had 6 of 8 eggs bad. The only eggs that did as bad were my own from a young roo who I was testing fertility on. He's only 6 months old. I have 50% or better on all the others so that's about as good as you usually get on shipped eggs. I've already contacted the 2 I bought the other 2 shipments from & am waiting to hear a reply back. 1 shipment was sent in a VERY tiny box with almost no padding (she was experimenting with box size for small shipments). 1 arrived broken & the other 5 ended up never developing due to being scrambled in shell.

Guess all I can do now is keep my fingers crossed for a good hatch from what is left

Currently waiting on 9 to hatch between now & Friday. The rest go a few at a time every day or so until the last hatch scheduled for the 14th. Then I have 2 dozen Silkies coming and several mixed assortments to start all over. Hopefully the next sets will travel better than the first group

Oh...almost forgot!!! I now have BOTH of my Banty hens sitting in 1 nest on the 4 eggs I originally gave Sarah. My daughter told me Lily was trying to sit on them too when she checked on them last night. This was confirmed today when I went to look under Sarah for Lily's egg (she insists on laying in Sarah's nest) & they were both sitting in the nest & puffed up at me when I tried to look under them. Oh well, at least maybe I can slip a few extra chicks under them as they hatch out over the next week...lol

Just found this thread. I set mine 5-13. I have an Americana roo. I started out with 4 Americana Pure bred, 4 RIR X Americana, 4 White Leghorn X Americana.

I had to discard 3 White Leghorn eggs, Membrane got Damaged. :(

But lockdown is Thursday.

anbsmom, that red blob could have been blood. The chick might have had a problem and it just died. Good luck with the rest of them!

As for my babies that are due on Sunday, I just saw 3 eggs wiggle, and my brother claims he heard a cheep! Im somewhat concerned because they arent due until Sunday, and i usually don't see eggs wiggle or hear cheeping until the day before they hatch. So i hope im not expecting early hatches!!!!! As nice as it would be to see my babies now, too many things can go wrong with early hatches!!!

baconskatiedid, i hope your horse gets better!! It stinks when your animals get hurt!

And how are your eggs doing?

To put a bright spin on having a big crack in one of your eggs: my brother walks into my room and says, "Oh My God, there's a huge crack in one of your eggs! Congratulations!!!!!" and i was like, "Uhhhhh, actually, i might have done that.......opps....!" The look on his face.....Priceless!!!!!
Thanks! She is a lot better, my dad is a great blacksmith and foot doctor. We did however have a fabulous time over the holiday on a 4 day, 80 mile wagon ride with the other two. I'am going to put a couple pics in my albums here. Had to much fun not to! One of my eggs started to pip yesterday around 2:00. Took the little guy long enough to come on out. Couldn't stay up to watch but this morn at 4:30 it was out!!!! Australorp! There are 4 more this morn I can see pipping. Maybe I can catch one coming all the way today. Pipping today is an Aracona, another Australorp, and 2 barrds or RIR. Forgot exactly which spot I put what. Guess I will find out soon enough? Hopefully the 4 I wasn't sure were good will hatch too. And all the other 12 will make it! I am EGGSITED!!!! I really had them due on the 31st, that would have been 21 days. Locked down day before and they started hatching yesterday? Sounds like you are having early birds too! Good Luck!

This is my first time hatching and have one out of the shell. Looks like 4 more are going to make it out today. I hope the rest do, but if not I am as happy as can be with what I've got for my first try!!!!!!!
