all was looking good until my 9th chick hatched.... he came out fine but he has had a redish cord coming from his rear stuck to the shell... its been like this for like 2 hours now... can anyone tell me what it is or if theres anything i can do to help him????? i started another thread but i really need help im so scared for the little baby

A few of mine had that cord as well. Most of them broke away from the shell, but one I took a needle nose pliers and pulled it off the shell so it wouldn't be towing it around. I would not however try to pull it off the chick and just let it crust off like a human umbilical cord. I think it might be because I had my humidity a little too high and they didn't finish closing all the way up, but I am not certain.

Here are the ten I have out so far, all silkies! A few more silkie eggs are pipped and in the process of hatching. My cochins should start hatching tonight since I had to put them in the incubator about a day later than the silkie eggs. I have never had silkies before. Most have normal heads but a few look very silly like this one. Reminds me of a cartoon that got hit in the head with a big hammer.

I had one that had two strings attatched to his bottom. It finally got loose, but now he has a red bump where she strings were attached to him. I started a new thread.
