Set eggs 5-12 Looking for hatching buddies

I HAVE READ 99.5 TEMP AND HUMIDITY 40-50%. UNTIL LOCK DOWN THEN 70-80 SOMEONE TOLD ME NOT TO GET THE HUMIDITY BELOW 40. THIS IS JUST WHAT I READ NOT WHAT I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE .
GOOD LUCK!!

Looked at my eggs last night and one of them has a rather large air sac. It starts off right where it is supossed to be in the big end of the egg, but then kind of goes off and along part of the side of the egg. The embryo and veins look good. What are ya'lls thought on this?

Not looking to good so far. Out of 9 eggs I have removed 4 that were not fertile, or bad air cell. The last 5, several are questionable, figured I'd give them 14 days to be sure. Of course the one really good developing egg had a teeny tiny hole in the shell that wasn't all the way through. I sanitized the hole and patch it with a tiny spot of duct tape. Hope it works.

Hope you have better results on day 14.

I still haven't pulled any of mine because I don't know enough to tell for sure what is going on. I think I have several that are clear. I am keeping watch on them when I turn them. I'll remove them if they start to look or smell suspicious.

I will probably wait until just before lockdown and remove any that aren't developing unless I need to prior. I would hate to pull out an Araucana or Faverolle that I thought was bad when I just couldn't tell for sure through the colored shell.

I forgot which post we were using for this hatch. My incubator has been rock steady! I think having it in the basement was the ticket. It's a very consistent temp there and that mean the LG is also consistent. I have been using the bottom half of a plastic easter egg filled with water for my humidity source. I fill it every other day. I have no clue what the actual humidity is in there, but I know it's low, and that is all I really aim for. When it comes time for lock down I will add more of them with sponges to raise the humidity. I have not candled a single egg.......ignorance is bliss! In my own mind they are ALL developing......no way to tell until they hatch. I am not putting myself through that kind of worrying this time around and I am keeping my hands off the incubator. My first time hatching I think I opened it more than a few time a day. This time I am barely looking at it, another reason why putting it in the basement was wise. I'm not down there much so out of sight out of mind. Tomorrow is day 7 for me.

Moe,

Sounds like a good idea. My incubator has been holding steady at 100.5. I've only added water once. Mine still has water in the wells in the bottom. I haven't checked humidity. I kind of agree with you. What I don't know, I can't worry about. I figure chickens have been hatching eggs for years without any hygrometers.

Good luck to you. Yesterday was day 7 for me.

I candled again yesterday (day 9) and removed 9 eggs that were no good. It looks like five of them had never started developing, and four had died at some point. I am almost a little glad, as 33 chicks is way more than I can handle! I am upset that I am down to only four bantam cochin eggs. Oh well, I will have lots of cute silkie chickies! The Coleman Max LED flashlight has worked great for candling. There were a few brown eggs that I had a little trouble with because they had thicker splotchy shells but I don't think any candler would get through those better than the flashlight.

Coleman max LED flashlight....CHECK! Gotta get me one of those. None of the flashlights I have do well for candling......probably yet another reason I don't candle them. It's one less reason to open the incubator. How do you think the hens candle the eggs???
