Set eggs 5-12 Looking for hatching buddies

I started duck eggs on the 11th, I might follow along just so I don't forget about them. :)

This is my second hatch with a brower incubator...my twenty something eggs look empty in this giant. I found out last hatch I have some hot spots, so they are all pretty much gathered on one side.

Duck eggs are much easier to candle than cochin eggs. I've only candled three times now but was pleased last night to see all bouncing babies!!

I only hatched three giant cochins out of 14 (shipped) eggs so I'm liking these odds better.

I'm hatching muscovies and Rouens. Some might be a muscovy rouen mix but they were started only a day or two after I got the rouens so I think mostly Rouens.

How do you like your Brower? Which model do you have? I keep drooling over the larger units. Of course, my hubby would kill me.

I had to toss two eggs today. One I was just giving some benefit of the doubt. The other was a new find. I couldn't see any veins in either egg. Both had formed babies in them with legs. :( Both were indeed dead when I opened the eggs. I'm down to nine lively little ones that wiggle all the time. Sure do hope I can hang on to these.

One of the little babies I had to toss was surrounded by a bloody glob. The other wasn't. Any thoughts about what this red glob was?

Thanks!
11 more days to go!

So far my eggs are looking good. Only had time to candle 2 yesterday, just to check the progress. Sure is a lot of work just to get ready to go on the wagon ride. One of the mares, Sue, came up lame the other day, so had to get up Brandy,"the spare", and get her ready to go. Looks like Sue will be fine, but still going to use Brandy.

I have never used a turner. Turning eggs by hand is dangerous (dropping eggs, cracking them...the usual

) but im sure that turning the eggs that are on your turner should be fine. All you are doing is making sure that that the embryo doesnt stick to the shell!

anbsmom, that red blob could have been blood. The chick might have had a problem and it just died. Good luck with the rest of them!

As for my babies that are due on Sunday, I just saw 3 eggs wiggle, and my brother claims he heard a cheep! Im somewhat concerned because they arent due until Sunday, and i usually don't see eggs wiggle or hear cheeping until the day before they hatch. So i hope im not expecting early hatches!!!!! As nice as it would be to see my babies now, too many things can go wrong with early hatches!!!

baconskatiedid, i hope your horse gets better!! It stinks when your animals get hurt!

And how are your eggs doing?

To put a bright spin on having a big crack in one of your eggs: my brother walks into my room and says, "Oh My God, there's a huge crack in one of your eggs! Congratulations!!!!!" and i was like, "Uhhhhh, actually, i might have done that.......opps....!" The look on his face.....Priceless!!!!!

Candled my eggs last night to make sure the air bubbles are at the top and so far it looks pretty good. There are four or five that I don't think will hatch, but most look pretty good! One was rolling around and gave the kids quite a thrill!

I bought a new flashlight the Coleman Max recommended earlier to try to candle mine. I also bought a better thermomenter/hygrometer. We'll see how it goes. Last time's hatch had about 40% infertile/clear. From my attempts last night, this time could be the same. Fingers crossed that the ones that have "blobs" that I couldn't see well with my weak flashlight are developing chicks.
