Set eggs 5-12 Looking for hatching buddies

My chick that piped today ( the 19th day) Is an Americana! What a coincidents. <----- I mis-spelled that really bad. Maybe he/she was tired of darkness! ;)

Worst thing just happened at around 11:50 p.m electricity went out cameback 20 minutes later. This on day 19. My temp went down to 92 and humidity went to 85%. I was able to drop the humidity to 72 after I opened it really quick but my temp are taking a long time to get back to normal. Did I do wrong by opening it? Will they be fine?

The little "beaker" was making no progress. I used the q-tip that was suggested and several hours later, still no progress. It had been over 24 hours since it piped. I decided if it was going to die in there anyway I might as well see what I could "inter fear" with. Took the tweezers and chipped away near half of the shell. The membrane seemed to still be really dry after the q-tip and raising the humidity some, so I riped it! It laid in half a shell for a couple hours. It was breathing, as I checked about every 15 minutes! It finally started wiggling around about 8:00 last nite. It was not getting up, just kinda scooting a tad on its side. When I went to bed around ten it was still laying on it's side. I did not expect it to make it through the nite, figured all the opening the bator and everything else I had messed with, it would be dead this morn. ** It is up and going good. chirping and walking around!!!! **

I am going to give " Tuffy " a few more hours in the bator before I move it to the brooder, but I think Tuffy is going to make it!!!!!

P.S. This momma bird thing is rough on the nerves ######

I'm glad "Tuffy" made it! I checked at 8:30 this morning and 3 of my 24 eggs have pipped and one is peeping!

Funny thing - yesterday I caught someone's pet parakeet in my yard and it is in the 40 gallon long aquarium I was going to put the chicks in. I definitely wasn't expecting a bright yellow budgie to come squawking by me when I was weeding the veggie gardens!

We have a parakeet cage but she is very accomplished and fits her little body right through the bars. I guess I will be turning one of our big Rubbermaid totes into my brooder...

I have no chicks yet :( I have 8 eggs under a broody hen and I candled them all yesterday and saw movement in 5. I will just have to wait and see.
