Set eggs 5/18 - whose with me?

They still looked alive when I placed them under the very willing ( but very angry ) hen. I will pull her off tomorrow and double check. Just going to let her hatch these babies after she lost her clutch to the coon... If I can post a video of her in attack mode I will!

Oh please post one if you can. We don't have any broody hens. There is one that will hide an egg though. When I open the door to collect the eggs, there are normally 6-8 eggs. When you turn your back to place them in the egg basket, one will be missing. I have watched one of them roll an egg away from the rest and hide it from me. It's pretty funny actually. Hopefully since they didn't have to go a really long time without heat, she can get them all to hatch out.

well I never even candled the eggs and they go into lockdown tonight so I will candle them before I lock them down. I post again after that.

My 17 chuker eggs are down to 14 2 clears and 1 early quitter they go into lock down on the 7th only 4 more days and then in 7 days I get to see my very first chuker babies Im so excited I cant wait

Ok so I started with 17, like I said earlier I never candled. So I candled today (day 18) and I had two clears that I threw away and 15 that are so dark that you cannot see anything so I have 15 in lockdown as of tonight. Guess we will see what hatches in the next few days. Good Luck to everyone!!!!

out of my 12 mille fleurs it looks like I will lock only four down. 2 of my 4 barnyard X eggs made it... they are for my friends 2 year old to experience baby chickens. So all told I'm hoping for six healthy baby fuzzies.
Guess I will be going into lockdown either late Tuesday or early Wednesday.
I have got a fox picking me clean, so I got a new puppy to live out with the chickens today. He's a little guy that can grow with the understanding that he is the man if I ain't home. He's a hound/boxer mix. We named him sheriff. I have pretty high hopes for him.

Just be careful with the young pup around the birds. That could cause just as many problems as the fox if they're in the same pen. Today would be lock down if it wasn't for the power outage. I literally put eggs under everything that LOOKED broody. After hour 6 I checked 'bator temps and they were dipping dangerously close to the 80's. I cleaned out any and all bad eggs from under the broodies and started spreading eggs all over the place!

So i went to get my eggs from my older chickens and noticed that I have yet again the same two broodies so I decided to give them both three eggs a piece that should be hatching in the next couple days. I did this yesterday afternoon. This afternoon when I went to collect eggs I found that they were laying on the eggs from my birds but a couple of the other eggs were moved to different nest boxes. I just took the eggs that are not fertile and gave them back their eggs...they felt cold and I'm not sure how long they went left alone. Guess I will find out when they hatch or not. Still have 9 in the incubator. Last time they went broody I gave them their own coop to sit but I no longer have that coop and my other coop has a bunch of two month olds in it. This will be an experiment to see what happens if they hatch with the rest of the flock. I was curious about leaving them with the others last time but didn't want to chance it.
