Set eggs April 3rd, who's with me!!??

I just put 27 Australorps in the bator on the 5th!!! I am quite eggsited :) I didnt have a great chicken year last year as i had caved and bought ISA Browns. They kept dropping like flies! I am sticking to heritage breeds as they are very adaptable to the environment and just dont get sick!

I will candle my eggs soon and see how they are doing. Fingers crossed!

hmmmm....might be in trouble here.....i snuck a peek at a few of my eggs last night.......when you gently roll the egg, it is not supposed to roll within the egg? All I am seeing is a darker mass that is about 2/3 of the content that spins within the egg when I turn it........not good right?

That's just the yolk, totally normal. Although at day 6 there's a good chance you see veins developing. Still, it can be a little tricky, depending on the color of your eggs. If the yolk is darkening, that's a good sign

Thanks Brooster! I don't feel like all is lost at this point.

I'm going to bring in a fresh egg from the coop today to use as my control egg for comparison tonight.
I will probably crack one of the darker ones open to see what I have and will then feel confident with all the others if all is well.

wish me luck!

I have never actually candled any eggs. When I hatched my first batch I probably could have because most of them were light blue Ameraucana eggs and minty EE eggs, but the ones I have in here right now are too dark I think. Well not to mention my flashlight isn't very powerful. I'm just gonna leave 'em alone since there's plenty of extra room in the bator this time around. So far everything seems to be going smoothly.

Here's a couple pics of the chicks from my last hatch:
