Set eggs Feb 17th anyone else?

I am going to candle mine March 1st Tomorrow. I never candle until day 10, just my way of doing it.
How often are all of you candeling? This Friday will be day 14, I've thrown out one egg because it looked 'bad', but I can't tell if any of the others are progressing. I can't see veins or any other things to compare to all the pictures I'm seeing.....any suggestions?

So far for me this year is going better. Set 35 on the 17th. Candled on day 7 and had 1 for sure no good, 2 were iffy. Candled today again..I was going to wait until tomorrow, but its snowing out and I was bored.. down to 31 now. I have a LG still air and am trying a cheat sheet done by ChooksChicks...so far I like it. Waiting for the end result to see for sure. Last year I set 35 and had 17 hatch. I am also going to borrow (or hopefully buy another) incubator to use just as a hatcher for lockdown. I was thinking while I am getting the current ready with wet papertowels etc, the eggs are cooling off. If I can borrow another one, I can get that ready with temps and humidity already done, then just transfer eggs for lockdown! (After candling one more time) Hubby caught on early this year...he knows as soon as the current incubator with the auto turner is empty, I will probably do it again! I have been hoping my guineas would start laying soon, but so far nothing. Good Luck everyone!

Well candled mine today and I have 21 good ones out of 42 but this was a test run to see the fertility as I have over half Pullets starting to lay and did not really think they were up to par yet on being fertile. Later in a couple mths, I will check again as one of my young roosters is also still learning.

LOL I started a thread but hvn't had much time on computer latley so I havn't posted much for updates.
So I candlled friday day 14 and pulled al the undeveloped eggs.
Totals of live chicks
Buff silkies 2
Partridge silkies 1
Ameraucanas 1-3 (eggs were really hard to see in)
Araucanas 8-10 of 16
My eggs silkie and mix I had 7 out of 8.

I also added 6 silkie eggs (possibly paint) and 3 green colored silkie eggs all but 1 normal egg are developing and on day 7 as of friday.

I pulled all the undeveloped eggs and opened them all and none of them had developed at all so I am 99% sure all of them were shipping damage. Its frustrating but at leased I should have a few babies soon : ) I will be geting more silkie eggs in buff and partridge and black from the same breeder as above eggs at a very fair deal since it wasn't either of our fault they were damaged so thats something at leased.
I am already planning my next and final hatch for the year..... Maybe

depends on DH and regular life or more how easy some of the babies from the 2 hatches are to rehome. We are only planning to keep a select few of the best for breeding/showing purposes.

Oh and I also broke down and bought another LG still air as a hatcher, I will get it setup and adjusted early this week so its ready a couple days early. With the extra eggs I had to do it because they are a week behind. : ) I really had to I was forced to buy another bator seriously! Or at leased that is what I told DH... I kinda planned it that way before I even got the silkie eggs. I had already planned on adding some orpingtons from ray & debbie but since she couldn't ship due to her family situation I just set the silkies alone.

I will be setting my next batch on March 26th. if anyone else is interested in setting again with me. I am going to go full again.
24 buff/lavander/black silkie eggs from bobbi porto
20 orpington eggs from ray & debbie
12 blue EE eggs Lav ameraucan/white leghorn mix
20 buf/partridge eggs from same person as this set.

Oh wait my bator won't hold that many eggs...... I guess I will just have to split them up between the 2 bators

Man I need to clean out the garage because I am going to need more brooders.......

I candled the 5 remaining eggs under Nutmeg on Day 14. Great air sacs on all 5 eggs, Movement seen in the brown eggs, I couldn't tell if I saw movement in the olive eggs. Can't wait for next weekend!!! I have to work in the am on Fri and Sat but I hope I'll get to see babies!

I'll candle tomorrow, and see where I am, but I think only one of the twelve is looking like it may hatch. I'm out of town Saturday all day. I'll be back on Sunday afternoon. Hopefully I'll come home to a chick....

Well, lockdown today in a new incubator! I put 30 out of 35 to start in. And...since I am not using the one with the turner for lockdown anymore, just set another 35. Oh boy, what have I gotten myself into. Heading out now to pull the little brooder box out of the barn and bring that in to warm up and get ready for chicks!!!!

Hi! I didn't know this thread existed! I set my first ever hatching eggs the 17th as well- 1 BCW Polish, and 4 bantam Buff Brahma, all in a Brinsea Mini Advance. Lock down is today, and I can't wait another 4 days for little chicks. Honestly, I don't know how some people can constantly have eggs in the incubator- the strain and sheer 'long-ness' of 21 days is killing me!

It seems like if you do everything possible to ignor your bator the time flies so much faster! I just looked a couple days ago and realized they were due for lockdown on tuesday night

.... Where did the time go it seems like last week I just put them in the bator!!! I just turned them 3-6 times a day whenever I walked by and remembered it had been a while. My humidity and temp stayed stable. I guess I was really lucky this hatch for the ones that were developing. I don't think I had any quiters just the ones damaged during shipping and never developed at all. I do have 8 Araucana eggs developed for sure and 2-3 more that were to dark to see clearly. I am most worried about them becuase of the lethal tuffed gene but out of 8 I should get a couple at leased

I think since I'm not holding out alot of hope they'll hatch it's easier for me. Since this is my first time I'll consider myself lucky if I get any. We'll see. Can't wait to hear who has the first pip!
