Set eggs February 12th! Hatch a long with me!

I'm still here! There just isn't much to tell at this point. I don't candle all the time, just mainly the first time to remove infertiles/non-developing eggs, then later just before Day 18, which I don't call "lockdown", but IBW (Intense Bator Watch). Well, I did call it that until someone said it sounded like an intestinal ailment, LOL!

I lost my handicapped BR rooster, Zane, the love of my life, today, to a sudden heart attack. It's a super sad day for us, so I almost forgot to check the incubator, but life is for the living, as they say, so I did finally check and all seems well in there.

sunny, I love that puppy in your avatar! I'm partial to that color.

So sorry for your loss of your roo...how old was he?

Sorry to hear about your roo!! Before I had chickens, I never thought they could/would be pets, but they are so funny and adorable.

Thank you. Zane was just over 4 years old, but he'd been crippled since 20 weeks old. One leg had permanent tendon damage and was in a bent position, no movement in the foot. He got around on one good leg using his wings as crutches. He was a cheerful soul, had a special girlfriend who visited him and was kind to him. It was just his time.

. All 5 eggs seem to be growing. I really hope that the last two eggs that Darla laid before the hawk got her hatch. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for girls. My dad says we can't keep anymore roosters. Two of my roos that hatched together last summer seemed to be best buds until a few day ago. They took to fighting and neither would give up. My dad split them up a few times and they would find each other again and go back at it. Now we have them separated. I may have to find a new home for one of them. So dad says NO MORE ROOSTERS!!!!

The puppy in my avatar name is Penny. She is a beagle/boxer/sheperd mix. She isn't much of a puppy anymore, more like 60lbs of dog!

Probably a good idea!

They do seem like best buds sometimes...then spring hits and WHAM! ....

I wonder if that is what was wrong with my "gimpy". He was from my faulty first batch. Hi legs were so far apart and couldn't use them, so he just kind of stumbled around. Although, He was about the size of my chicks are now (just over 2 weeks) for his entire life, 7 months or so. He was so friendly and cute and loved laying on the grass in the sun with the dogs. I miss him!
