Sunny, your Penny is pretty. Looks very much like my Cody that we lost about 5 years ago. He was a boxer/retriever mix, full of energy up until the say he died at 12 years old.

Seclusionfarms, this was a one in a million rooster. I loved that rooster insanely, I really did. The morning chorus was missing a very strong voice today. Thanks for your condolences. Still can't believe my Zane is gone.

Speckledhen- I can empathize with you. I truly can. I know my experience with chickens and waterfowl is only 2 years so far but I have found a passion and get extremely attached to some of my birds. Right now I have a Goose named Chloey who I love to pieces.(In fact, I just specially peeled some cucumber for her in the morning when I get home from work, since they are her favorite) If something happens to her (or when it does) it will be like losing a friend.I truly, truly feel for you and hope he stays in your heart, and may you have room for many more

Yes I bought all the eggs most from local breeders but had to have the CL and the SFH Shipped from out of state so we will see. BTW, any suggestions for candling my green eggs. A few seem truly opaque like the light doesn't even shine thru at all? Are the eggs bad or is it something I'm doing wrong when I candle?

I'm with you. If my wife wasn't here to keep me in check I would def have bought a cabinet incubator and have many more eggs going! Although I did see one o n CL that I am actively thinking about NOT buying. But man I really want to! :)

Some temp fluctuations last night and today..

but I candled some tonight and they look good still. I think I still have 18 going strong.9 days left to hatch!

In bator 2 with bantie eggs, I think it's too early to tell much, they will be in a week on next wednesday. We shall see,
In Bator 3 I know those good old standard brown mixes are growing already. Same age as the banties.

I had some fluctuations in my temps last night too. 104 degrees. Not sure how long it was like that, I got it down to 100. I candled one egg, and it had a thick dark line in it. I am assuming that is normal for day 13? I will be candling all 18 tomorrow. Only 8 days left.

My incubator has been kind to me, I still have 10 eggs growing! No more have died so that is excellent.

Best candler in the world is an old slide projector. I've gone through three of them and am on my fourth (DH was an art student and had several put away). The bulb is about a 300 watt, very hot. I make a donut with a washcloth and rubber band to cushion the egg and I can see into Marans eggs, olive eggs, etc.

ETA: Good grief, I have TWO broodies! Two of my three D'Anver pullets decided to go broody yesterday at the same time.
