SET EGGS JUNE 23 ANYONE WITH ME?

For whatever reason, I thought this would be easy. When I was little, my dad got eggs, a lightbulb and a cardboard box, we turned the eggs daily and misted with a little water and that was that. Out popped chicks in less than a month. EASY. Where is that now??? LOL If mine hatch it will be a miracle. They'll all come out in blankets or wearing sunglasses. Take your pick. I can watch it while awake although fiddling with it every 15 minutes for 28 days (turkeys take longer) is driving me a tad nutty but I can't do much when asleep and every morning the temp is WRONG! Yesterday it was 95 in there at 6 am. This morning 106... Criminy sakes! I'm only on day 14...

I'm sorry you all are having difficulties. I am to really, after I took my turner out the temps went low. I got them back up but had to turn the heater on in the room. It seems the genesis work best when its 80 in the room.

I have a pip all though its very low on the egg, like middle, its right at the edge of the air cell. Its peeping, going to watch it to make sure it doesn't drown. Its one of my GLB.

I think my hatch is done.

I have 8 healthy ones [one of which I assisted out of the egg], 1 died this morning, and one hatched this afternoon but has a huge chunk of yolk still attached to it, so I'm not sure if that little one is going to make it.

So, I had a 36% hatch rate :/ I'm kind of bummed I thought I was going to do at least 50%.

It's Saturday night, I'm going to leave the chick with the attached sack and the other eggs in the bator....give the eggs one more day to pip or chirp and then Monday they will go in the trash.

I got gorgeous chicks out of the hatch though, I am very pleased.

Anyone with silkie experience want to explain this phenomenon to me??? So of my chicks were born with misshapen heads [almost polish shaped with the big crest on top] is that normal?

Have you compared the humidity in your Genesis? I'm concerned that mine is showing that the humidity is 70-72% and the other one that I put says that it is in the high 80s. I'm not sure which one to believe. The hatch rate hasn't been great, but then again, this is my first time hatching.

Tomorrow will be the last part of the hatching for me for at least a week and a half. I ended up with some gorgeous Golden Laced Crested Polish with beautiful colors and high vaults. I also ended up with some assorted colored Cochin bantams that are just as fuzzy and fluffy as can be (one may be a frizzle). Yesterday, I received a shipment of beautiful silkies (since I can't seem to hatch them) along with some of the cutest little Rouen ducks (that are super messy). So far, I've only lost 1, but I still have 8 in the bator that have yet to do anything.

I don't trust the Genesis temp or humidity readings I have several hygrometers and thermometers. The small fish tank thermometer is the most reliable, it has a suction cup on it. Walmart has them. I have several electronic ones that read something different on each one. I have 2 electronic ones that are spot on so I test all my others against them.

My little one that pipped mid egg died this morning. I have another one that just hatched and one pipped. Yeah.

So, more than likely the humidity that I had with the electronic reading was correct and the other was incorrect. Great! That's probably what happened to mine that had their beaks at the shell when I candled them before I put them in lockdown. I feel like this is a losing battle either way!

I'm thinking about saving up for a brinsea incubator before I try for more babies...the incubator I had kind of sucked in the end. Temperature fluctuations like mad, and just and all around cheap incubator. I am a little disappointed that my hatch rate was 36%, considering the eggs were so expensive!

I guess I'll have to wait.

I ended up with 8 silkies, all of which are cute and fluffy...but that's not a lot considering I started off with 22 eggs.

There's no sign of movement with the other eggs and the bator is starting to get stinky so I think I"m just going to toss the eggs and clean it out.

My son & I just did the math & we had a 50% hatch (although it felt like less). This is from the first hatch. I still have a second coming up. I'm debating on if I want to hatch them in the LG instead of moving them to the Genesis like I did last time. I have the LG stable and only have to take out the turner. I don't know. I still have week to decide.
