Set eggs on 3/18 who's with me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I candled some of my 23 eggs at 8pm and can see veining in a couple of the silkie eggs and 1 of my cochin eggs YAY!!!!! There was a definite blood ring in 1 of them so I pitched it. Now will wait til day 10 to be sure on the rest of them. Temp holding steady at 100 and humidity between 35 and 40 %. Did fire up an old LG still air at 3 pm today and still waiting on temps to stop fluctuating. I have 2 aquarium thermos in the bottom of it reading 97 but the thermo on the top says 101. Going to leave it alone until morning and see what it says then. Have 45 barnyard mix eggs to put in it if it acts right. Anyone else candle ? Hope everyone is still progressing. Come on chickies !!!!!

wow.. I did not get any email notifications of recent posts. Thought I would come check and see...thank you for the welcome ! I am excited to be part of this group. And hey, go easy on the newbies with the auctions..lol.. I have learned a lot of what you both are talking about-- the hard way, haha. And then there are times it is just fun to bid but I am wiser now :)

I'm sorry.....

smchickfarm, Don't temp me! What are you looking for that says egg is good/bad?

When they start to develop, you will see a dot in the center and veins coming out. It looks kind of like a spider. If your shells are really dark, you might not see it as well. I just use an LED flashlight so I can't see through the dark ones.

What's lock down? Not sure where I been?

Days 18 - 21 you stop turning the eggs, up the humidity and do not open the incubator until they are finished pipping out. If you open the incubator up, you will run the risk of shrink wrapping the chicks. I'm not sure if that's just if they have pipped or all of them? I did do this very thing on my first hatch, even though I knew not too. Killed the next two chicks that were pipping out.

I don't get any more e-mail notifications either, which is just as well because now I have less to delete in my in-box.
