Set eggs on 3/18 who's with me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mine is a homemade bator. My humidity is ready about 50 and my temp 100. I have the plugs in right now. I will add another tray of water at lockdown to raise it to about 60-65 humidity.

I don't know about the bators you all have. I would think if you can get the humidity to about 45-50 that would be good. Sorry, not much help. Let me know what you do, I may have one of those bators some day and I am curious!

For all you chicken folks, I am having a problem with my new 1588 Genesis hovabator . My ambient house humidity is 43. If I put any water in my incubator, tray 1( outside trough) it raises the humidity to 57. should I just leave the tray empty and see what happens? Did I already do damage with the high humidity. My incubator reads significantely lower, about 39 right now, temp 100 with my indoor hygrometer/thermometer reads 57 humidity 99/100 temperature. What should I do? Anything at all? Let the water dry up, it should soon?
Patti
I have the same incubator and like cbreeze said I have the best luck just opening and closing the vent holes to adjust the humidity. I turned the red plastic cap upside down and just placed it 1/2 way over the hole and that seems to help some. I am trusting the digital display only and keeping the humidity between 35-40. I probably should do what you are doing and get a 2nd hygrometer to be sure. Now I'm worrying LOL. Let us know if you get it adjusted :)

I am curious about the homemade ones too. Would love to see some pics of all the homemade ones. I am going to make one someday

The first hatch which was my previous hatch that I used the new bator, everything read correctly until lock down- then it was really doing weird things. This hatch- the humidity reads lower than what it actually is and the temp reads higher than what it is. I have 2 hygrometers with 3 thermometers-- I definitely do not trust the digital readout ! I run mine with 45 to 55 percent humidity until lock down.

Thank you very much for all this info. I have 2 additional thermometers in the bottom and they are very close 99-100 but haven't verified the humidity. Guess I'll go get a couple and get them in there. Thanks again

You are welcome ! I hope yours is correct ! I would just hate to see you go through what a lot of us have went through with the new one. I know some variances are ok, but mine was too far off. It is better to be safe than sorry

@sparrker, You want water in the tray only right side tho perfect humidity is 40-50% 45% is ideal. You havnt hert the eggs tho it's ok just remove 1 of the plugs to get the humidity down a little. It want hert your temp either it will stay at 100.

so I had to candle..the Ameraucanas are showing something but yet not enough to really tell, the BCM are too dark shelled so I am waiting to do those. I had also put Mille Fleur Leghorn eggs in a few days later and I am seeing veining in some of those. First time I have done any white shelled eggs, wow, so much easier to see.

Plug has been out( the new genesis only has one plug). Filled right side of trough only( with the incubator level it runs all the way around and doesn't just stay on the right side). Using an auto turner. I calibrated my auxiliary hygrometer/thermometer. I've got it down to 29% humidity and will slowly work up to 40%. I've put 3 cc's of water in right now, see what happens. Next I'll try 5cc and go from there. It may be because its been humid out. I don't know I guess I shall experiment a little at a time. Plug is in right now also, I put it in after my humidity went down to 27%.
I did candle a bunch of eggs and saw veins in all of them. Even my blues and greens from my EE's have veins. Browns eggs look good too.So exciting. Thanks for the help.
