I'm jealous.....I told myself I would wait until day 10 to candle the shipped eggs so they had plenty of time to develop and settle in and lock down those air cells! Today is only day 5.
I did take a quick peek at three of four today because they got out of position in the incubator. From what I've seen so far, the silkie eggs aren't doing so well. But the one Ameraucana egg I looked in was a hyper little critter!
The last of my shipped eggs came today. I got 14 more lavendar bantam Ameraucanas and she put in four showgirls! Naked necks weird me out so the chances are I'll fall in love with those silly things if they hatch out. I'm pretty sure they are blue partridge, which I have in regular silkies, so I can put them to use!
I'm setting all the new eggs tomorrow.

Hi all! I have just found you's all, and read all the way thru! I set eggs for the very first time in my life with a recently purchased Brinsea Octagon Advance w/turning cradle.. and bought the $32 candler... on March 16th! May I join in ?? My hens are shaver reds.. not sure what that means.... they are red and not very big... and I threw a mutt rooster in with all 16 (hes got barred rock in him, I think.. got him from a friend who has layers of all different colours and sizes), collected eggs for 4 days.. keeping the very cleanest, and most perfect. All I did was plug in the incubator, and filled the reservoirs, and its done it all by itself, staying at 37.5C, and 47% humidity. I candled all 24 eggs on the 8th day. It was very easy to see what was inside! 18 eggs had moving jumping embryo's! 5 looked clear.. and 1 has a dark yolk.. and black dot.. but a real wavy line all the way around the bottom of the egg. I candled it a couple days later, and the black dot is bigger, but didn't look much different. NO movement on either occassion. Have NO idea whats up with that one. If its a rotter, I probably should pitch it. Haven't looked at any since. I guess they are 'due' on April 6-7th? I set them at 3pm. SOOO excited!!

Getting excited, were more than halfway now! I was just thinking about lockdown. To the chicken folks using a turner, I was thinking of placing my eggs in cartons to hatch out of, what do you think? The reason being if they've been upright all along I think I want to leave them this way. I'm not sure if I should use the foam cartons or paper fiber ones. I would remove the top and probably some part of the bottoms. Are we aiming for 60% humidity also or 65%? I know if there's too much they;ll drown. WE don't want that. I guess I'll go 60%
